just saw someone say "I'm fine with non-canon shipping, as long as it's not breaking up a canon couple"
oohhh yeah gimme an AU with NUTHING
There is plenty of room to make new AUs with the canon couples and just changing up the implied couples.
You can do cross Fandom Au's like me and my friends Sukuna Luz, She Hulk Amity, upcoming Sith Luz AU's
Plus, Huntlow isn't canon, Gus doesn't have any confirmed romanced, none of the non-Amity Blight siblings have a couple, and people like Viney, Skara, and the like are free.
Not messing with the best and most pivotal ship (Lumity) still leaves you with a lot to work with.
You can absolutely have an innumerable number of great AUs while keeping the canonical couples. That was never my point.
I should have used a different word but 'AU' was the only thing I could think of without repeating myself.
My point was that being open to non-canon ships, but only the ships in which the show hasn't explicitly disproven, is silly in my opinion and needlessly limiting.
Not really, a fanfic story still needs an emotional core and relation to the original story, otherwise you are better making an entirely new story.
Luz without Lumity is Luz missing other half of what makes her a great character (her dynamic with Amity)
It's the same way removing Belos from Hunters story makes him lose what he is as a character.
No disrespect, but I just find Lumity to be a core central feature that makes Luz compelling as a character.
You can still make an emotional core and relation to the source story with non-canon pairings. A TOH fanfic doesn't stop being a TOH fanfic when there isn't Lumity in it.
It appears to me like you're saying Luz and Amity simply cannot exist at all without being shipped together and similarly TOH as a universe cannot exist without Lumity and I think that's where we fundamentally disagree.
And don't get me twisted for some kinda hater, I love Lumity too. I'm not saying they SHOULD split up I'm just saying it isn't sacrilegious to imagine other pairings.
