Does nobody remember how to multiship? Why is the fandom (on all sides) acting like you can either ship only Lumity, Lunter, or Huntlow and you must live and die by your decision? Maybe I'm an echo-chambered idiot but where I come from I can ship all of those at any amount I want at the same time. Whether that be open relationships or separate AUs in my head.
My own fanwork does not have to abide by a linear timeline of decisions like a show does. I can have as many timelines as I want running simultaneously and can pick and choose from any of them at any given point and get all the benefits from any of them! One existing does not nullify the other.
Not saying everyone has to multiship of course, but why does the concept seem foreign to people? You realize it's all fanfic, right?
Furthermore, what's this weird relationship with canon some people have? It seems like canon only matters when it supports what someone wants. "Lumity/Huntlow is canon, suck it." I know?!?!? That's fucking awesome!! I love them!
I can still write fanfic about Luz and Hunter though. That's not even in spite of the canon, that's just because I can and I want to.
Oh, but if someone has a headcanon that isn't explicitly backed up by canon (looking at you pittwins) that doesn't matter, because 'my headcanon is basically canon anyway because I said so' You realize it's all fanfic right? If canon was the only thing important fandom wouldn't itself exist, even if all fanworks matched what is accepted as canon, because it would still be fanfic and, therefore, noncanonical. And I'm not even someone with a disdain for canon. I love canon too.
It's like people think the idea of a source concluding is to come to a consensus as to what is Correct. Characters can only act this way. Only these couples can exist. Only these headcanons are valid. That's so fucking boring. I want to smash dolls together.
This isn't exclusive to TOH. It's always existed in every fandom but it seems like TOH is heavily affected by it.
