knife photo and tat allergy ramble under cut

they're so cool.. the bird one is retired and the fish one i have with me always except for when i actually need it (A VERY RARE OCCASION). it's a wonderful gift from my wonderful wife.

the bird knife was maybe my fifth tat and the allergic reaction wasn't even my first tat allergic reaction. the first one was even worse but cosmetically looked fine, i was just itchy all over.

it took like a year of some human testing to figure out what caused the reaction but it was PVP (Polyvinylpyrrolidone). a year later and i was like woohoo okay as long as my friend uses the good ink and not the evil ink i should be okay! well oopsies, muscle memory kicked in and we ended up with the evil ink.

over the next few days it swelled up sore-like and leaked out half of the ink, it healed into an old prison tat. then when i had forgotten how much that healing process sucked we did the touch ups in three sessions as reluctantly advised by a doctor friend and now it looks great 👍

sometimes the allergy topic comes up while i'm tattooing a person and girl they hate hearing about the fact that you can have a reaction even if you have a bunch of tattoos already LOL i'm sorry. it's so hard to shut up about this but that is about a fraction of the whole tat allergy ramble, i will not subject you to more oh patient reader.
