Lore Time (feat. Jourdain)

I said i would so here it is, Jourdain lore for his one fan (/j)

Note: In my canon, some mythical creatures were traded and sold due to being lower on the social scale (humans being at the top). If we can have zombies and vampires, we can have any mythical creatures BECAUSE I WANT. Also Jourdain is a French cuirassier from the 1er Regiment de Cuirassiers.

Early Life:

Jourdain was born to a somewhat wealthy family. All the male figures in his family have been in the military in some way (his grandfather a sturgeon and his father being an officer). Jourdain's mother was originally captured as a breeding mare. Jourdain's Father found her during an auction and fell in love with her. He traced her back to the farm she was staying in and met up with her for weeks before they ran away together. 2 years later they had Jourdain. Jourdain's father worried about him being a centaur as he didn't want his son to be sold away or bullied. So he did everything in his power to make sure Jourdain had a normal enough life growing up. He was still bullied, but his father did what he could to toughen him up and his mother comforted him.

Years before the Blight:

As a child, he was deathly terrified of dying. The mere thought of war scared him knowing that he would soon have to follow his father's footsteps. The only comfort he had was a stuffed animal and his mother since his father was away at the time. He was sent away at 14 (to his mother's displeasure & distress) to train to be a cuirassier. At 21, Jourdain officially becomes an officer. At the same time, that's when the blight starts to show in small cases like fever or headaches but everyone assumed it was just a new sickness that would pass. Jourdain didn't really care about it as much but did keep it in mind as he was literally horrified of dying still. When the outbreaks finally started, he was 29. When the troops finally realized that people started turning into "cannibals" and eating uninfected people that's when the regiments kinda broke apart. Jourdain got separated and nearly died to a bomber. His entire right side is mildly burned as he got caught in the explosion and was set on fire by the torch the bomber was carrying. The only reason why he lived was of his cuirass and a nearby sturgeon who heard the explosion and Jourdain's cries of pain.

After Blight/Current:

Some time passes and now he's an old 32 year old with issues because he no longer fears death and honestly kinda wants to die because he's tired of constantly fleeing or fighting. But has to keep the morale up because if an officer breaks the illusion that "we're not gonna die" then everyone else will feel completely helpless and HE DOES NOT WANT THAT. He believes that if he can get the others to safety, then he can truly die in peace because otherwise he will feel like he failed his infantry if they died. He doesn't want to feel wasn't mentally strong enough for them. Jourdain is the second oldest of his little group of survivors (mixed with French, British, and few others), the eldest being the British Chaplain, Father Archibald. These two regularly argue a lot. Jourdain does not like the British at all, considering the era and the fact that, the British were the ones who originally kidnapped and sold his mother. But this is tested because the youngest of the survivors in the group, a 17 year old British boy named Jeremy. Jeremy was drafted because his older brother was too sick to be drafted and was his replacement. Jeremy is bullied a lot; he's a low ranker who's at the end of the day, a child. Jourdain takes pity on him and kinda "adopts" him. The reason why is because one night when Jourdain was doing a night watch over their camp, he found Jeremy sobbing on his own. Jeremy started opening up about how the bullying got to him and how he had nobody left after finding out his family was killed. Jeremy is a mama's boy so he just feels alone 100% of the time. Jourdain talks to him because he can relate on being bullied when he was young. They talk until Jeremy falls asleep in the clearing they were in and Jourdain helps him onto his back. (Jourdain normally doesn't give rides to anyone) So he's fathering a scared child whom he morally feels the need to watch over because he still has a life ahead of him. However, the other officer (who is Jeremy's official officer) is fighting with Jourdain because he believes the French have no say over Jeremy even though his own regiment is shit to him.

Bonus:

Because of a dumb joke + my friend's encouragement he has some umamusume lore. He's not a centaur but still has his horse traits, he's an older war horse who learned about horse races and has no fucking clue what they even are. His Trainer put him in the races despite his PTSD and he's struggling to adjust because he's usually around other younger umas so he doesn't know how to connect with them at all + au where he has his old memories and thinks this is hell/j

The other Umas call him "Grandpa" or "Grandfather" affectionately because he's on the older side. Also because he doesn't know jack shit about the future. One burger would either kill him or make him want more who knows
