The second her photos popped up, Kara dropped her phone, the world around her had begun to spin quickly, her entire body drenched with a cold sweat as her breathing picked up into a panicking, hyperventilating rush, she felt sick to her stomach, her hands shaking like leaves as she shifted between the urge to sit down, the urge to burst into tears, and the urge to throw her guts up

Everything was just happening so…. fast.…

And before she knew it, she was on the ground, a hand clutching her chest, she couldn’t…. breathe…. everything was so loud and fast and bright and she still. couldn’t. BREATHE.

Ellie was looking out her window when she saw Kara fall, her hand flying to her mouth as she turned to head downstairs. Once she reached her, she knelt beside her, brushing her hair back from her face. “It’s okay, Kara, I’m here. You’re not alone.” Ellie had seen Kara’s pictures come across the screen, but she hadn’t really understood what it had all meant. She felt that way about a lot of the pictures, but she’d known enough to realize that they were all secrets, things her classmates didn’t want to get out. “It’s all going to be okay you know. I know it doesn’t seem like it. But it will be. It has to be.”

When Ellie saw Darren fall, she ran over, kneeling beside him as she looked him over. “Sir, are you alright? What’s happened?” She did her best to stay calm, taking off her jacket and balling it into a makeshift pillow to place under his head. “Here, just rest. You can take a minute to recover. Don’t worry about anything else.”

She bit into her lip, feeling embarrassed by the description of her social life and extracurricular activities. “No, it isn’t that. I do like keeping busy, but that doesn’t mean I don’t have time for other things. It just means I want to be involved in things. I want to make as much of this experience as I can, that’s all. Don’t you like getting involved in things?” Ellie looked back up, trying to bring a smile to her own face. “I can do that, Sir.” Reaching out she offered her hand to take his phone, to input her number. “Los Angeles, wow. I’ve never been but I’ve heard stories, it must be gorgeous there. I’m from Louisiana, actually.”

But I wouldn’t wan to offend anyone, so I’ll be more careful.” She wrapped her arms around herself. “Thank you for the compliment, that was very kind of you.” Ellie nodded again, understanding what Darren meant. “You’re right, I always prioritize school work over anything. I’m also a cheerleader and I’m looking for a couple of other clubs to join. But, I already have large amounts of study time in my schedule. I’m just wanting to add a little more for this week.
