I've had these models half done for six months just sitting in my mess of a hobby space. It feels good to have it cleaned up and finally finish these lads
Tabletop Gaming at its Finest
So, the “Emerald City Tabletop Coalition,” run by Chance Daniels, which apparently organizes tabletop gaming events in Seattle, removed/screened a post about OrcaCon from their Facebook group.Â
Their explanation?Â
For reference, here’s OrcaCon’s mission statement:
OrcaCon is a games and geek convention, focusing on analog games. This includes: board and card games, role-playing games, and miniature games. OrcaCon is focused on creating a safe and welcoming space for promoting the tabletop games hobby, supporting diversity in tabletop games, and building a community of both novice and experience game players.
Hey, Chance Daniels & associates:
My existence is not political. Neither is my presence in the hobby or the industry.
Neither is that of people of color, non-male people, LGBTQ people, disabled people, or anyone else.Â
Our love of gaming is just as authentic as yours–moreso, I’d say, given that we’re trying to bring people in rather than keep them out.Â
Moreover, it’s not your call. Games don’t belong to you and other white cis men. Your attempt at gatekeeping is a presumptuous grab for authority you don’t have, that you’re not qualified to have. We’re here, we’ve always been here, and your attempt to enshrine your bigotry as apolitical and our existence as something that has to be covered up is a pathetic attempt at relevance and importance you lack.
Holy crap, I’m pretty pissed to see this bullshit. A well-branded 3-day political statement that *happens* to have games?! Straight up lies right there, my brothers and sisters.
I backed the funding Kickstarter for OrcaCon. I attended the inaugural convention, I participated in the seminar track, and when I wanted to run a pick-up game of Blue Rose and needed space because *all the available gaming space was booked* the con organizers found space for me! For my game! Because people were gaming! Hell, there was even an icebreaker party game happening in the BAR, donated by one of the game company sponsors.
I have been to A LOT of cons in my 28 year career in the tabletop games biz and I have rarely enjoyed myself, or felt as comfortable and welcome at a convention as I did at OrcaCon. Certainly I have never had that experience at a first year convention. Anyone who thinks that achievement is addressing something that “exists on a negligible scale” is full of their own privilege or full of shit, possibly both.
Also, what the fuck problem is there with political statements? I don’t think I need to expand on that, I just want to put it out there.
I’d like to point out for anyone who’s unaware (since a lot of my followers aren’t in the Pacific Northwest,) as someone who has worked for GeekGirlCon and knows many of the organizers of OrcaCon personally, that the “political statements” in question are statements of inclusion for women, for people of non-white races and non-european cultures, for marginalized genders and sexual orientations, for the disabled, and for the neurodiverse.
By coding inclusivity as “proselytizing” or “political statement,” Chance Daniels reveals himself and his Emerald City Tabletop Coalition as an unmitigated pile of elitist dickbags upset that their hobby might be open to people they think of as less-than. He’s a whiny pissbaby pissed off about “political correctness.”
been sitting on this one for a WHILE
Today is one year HRT and I couldn't be prouder of where I am
It's been a while since I've posted anything on here. I am still alive! Life has gotten extremely busy, but I am doing amazingly. Today marks ten months on HRT for me, so here's a couple recent selfies. I love my life now, transitioning was the best thing I could have ever done!
I feel really lucky to be going to see the Grand canyon the day before my bottom surgery consult. The adventures I have been able and willing to go on since transitioning have been so amazing.
I took some time for self care. It was simple and slightly dumb, but it made me feel a bit better. All I did was go to a local coffee shop order a chai (because I don't drink coffee), a cinnamon roll, sat down and read. I ended up finishing my book. I felt good to find a setting where I could be around people with no expectation of interaction, and somehow in that situation I was able to slow down and just focus on just a book, no thinking about all the things that I have been struggling with, transition, work, a break up, none of it mattered in that simple moment.
This is a good showing of how much progress I’ve made in my life. The picture on the left is 1 year before I started HRT backpacking around Mt. Rainier with my sister and father, this is among the happiest I remember looking before I started HRT. Now 7 months after starting HRT here I am on the left, just taking a dumb selfie in my bathroom and I”m as happy. I truly cannot believe how happy I’ve become just by being able to live my life!

I'm going to slowly rework the blog to become a transition and mental health diary of my experiences.
H/T to @gendercrimes for starting this one :P
[Trans girl and trans fem NB reblogs only, all likes welcome]
if u ever worry about your future as a wlw please know that my mother who just turned 40 and her girlfriend who started transitioning at 39 (who are both divorced and had children w/other ppl) are currently singing duets in our kitchen while my stepmum plays acoustic guiter and they’re beautiful and happy and there is always hope for you
how do you grow old in a body like this? how do you grow old as a trans woman
okay but real  question here
But likely actually we’re the first generation with thiiiiiis many girls medically transitioning so young and I always like am a little trepidatious about the future because we just sort of don’t have an answer to this question and ime our doctors don’t either.
i feel. our generation of girls is in such a bizarre & metatransitional place being both the last of the Old Blood that had to figure all of this out for ourselves without any remotely positive presence of transness in popular culture and the first of the New Blood that somehow managed to transition in early adulthood anyway.
it looks, god willing, like we’re shaping up to be the last generation that will have to perform the rituals required by vestigial old school gatekeeping, and we’re probably the last generation in which single-puberty transitions were/are strictly a fantasy. like, most of the girls who come after us are going to have such different lives and they’re just going to Look so much different than us, and i’ve been trying to dissuade myself that it won’t precipitate as resentment or outright hatred for us and our mistrust of this culture and/or as blame against us for whatever new modes of transmisogyny they’re made to endure. at the very least they’ll have a shot at something resembling a legitimate adolescence or even childhood, which is incredibly bittersweet for the rest of us trying to synthesize everything from shrapnel ex post facto
& given that we grew up with Just Enough transness around to make it into the punchlines of literally every sitcom since at least the 80s and the glittering halls of maury/jerry shock reveal stardom, but not nearly enough to learn anything about ourselves and our bodies that could actually be helpful to us or teach us anything other than hate and monstrousness, it’s not surprising that were also the ones innovating theory
I never realized this, this both makes me incredibly happy and makes me slightly sad.
a children's rhyme on gender
there are boys and there are girls
but those are only the extremes
there are countless other genders
making all the space between
and past the outer edges
where you thought that nothing was
are the people with no gender
who mean just as much as us
Triggers: Depression, Suicide
This is something I’ve talked about a little bit before but I’ve never written it out so I could see it, so I could realize what it meant to me.
I tried to kill myself, but didn’t follow all the way through. and afterwards I decided I’ll live out one dream I’ve had for a long time and I’ll kill myself afterwards. so I bought a $600 motorcycle off craigslist and fixed it up, when ever I got depressed and was going to self harm or began to focus on suicide I would go to the garage and work on the bike. and in a couple weeks it was fixed and running and ride-able. I graduated from college and loosely planned a two week trip. around seeing friends and visiting places I always wanted to. in a way I kind of thought of it as a saying goodbye trip. I rode down highway 101 and followed the coast from Seattle all the way to LA. I stopped in the redwoods, and at pinnacles, I saw friends along the way, and it was really good. I had this freedom I never did before. It was just me traveling alone, I had no one to think about but myself. on the way back from LA I went to Yosemite, I had planned on going and spending two nights there, but instead I was there for a week. It is a beautiful place, and I met people there that loved life. people who weren’t even in the best spots in their lives but they still loved it. that trip was an amazing personal experience for me. It was the beginning of me being able to make mental progress. To break out of my depression. It was a trip that I will never forget and wouldn’t be the same person now without it.
