I grew up faster than I aged.

My childhood wasn't a fairytale book page.

Even though you see me smiling, with my eyes I see with pain.

But I don't let it turn sunshine into rain.

Kept grounded by rooted faith.

Because something bigger than me is the reason why I didn't break.

Free Mind

I’m not made for just anybody to understand.

I don’t move like society demands.

In this so‑called free world, free thinking is what stands a chance.

Peace

Inside is where you’ll find me.

Enjoying my peace, letting my creative flow

like a stream to a river that eventually

becomes a sea.

Till then, I’m going to keep being me.

Even then, not much of me you’ll see,

Your Smile

It has me sliding into your DMs to compliment it,

Without expecting a response, but you came back with it.

Letting me know how it made you feel, with emojis and thank you.

I was just letting my feelings speak, so no need for the thank you.

Could have been my response, but I just left it on read.

Until I saw that smile again, so back to your DMs I head.

A few compliments later, now I’m responding to your stories.

A few replies later, now I want to know your story.

What keeps that smile from a frown and how genuine your soul is.

Asking deep questions so your heart I don’t miss.

Might be a long shot, but won’t know if I don’t take the shot.

As I reread this, I’m contemplating if I should send it or not.

Knowing what I’m risking, and I’m risking a lot.

Because to me, your smile is the whole shake and not the cherry on top.

Technically A Loss

You can't find someone

when you yourself is lost.

Feeling never to be good enough,

regardless of who you come across.

So you settle for a tie

that's technically a loss.

Reverting back to what you know.

Where your dim light mimics a bright glow.

Only to realize you never left that place at all.

We were two; now we’re one.  

It was sweet, it was fun.  

While it lasted, now it's done   

Different paths we begin on,

Words Into Medicine

At times, I have things to say, but I just can't find the words.  

Perhaps it's because of a lesson I have yet to fully learn.  

To truly comprehend the message within the lesson,  

In order to turn my words into medicine.  

As I teach from my pain, so you don't feel the hurt,  

Walking through the fire, so others don't get burned.  

Life’s a bitch, but I bet it’s better than being under the dirt.  

Take time to learn yourself; afterward, it's going to be hard to put someone else first.

Still Refused

Heart abused,

But quit on love, still refused.

Knows how to love, but not who—

Just like I know who to love,

But how to love, I lack the clues.

Losing myself to gain love from you,

Yet at the same time, losing you,

As I slowly myself begin to choose.

Win-win—

Seems more like lose-lose.

Even though it's really more of a tie.

"Forever" feels more like "whenever,"

Because eventually, one has to say bye.

That's The Truth

Adrian is the name and that’s the truth.

Spilling my heart and mind in and out of the booth.

You may darken my light, but my smile you will never boot.

Loved by many and hated by a few.

Could be the other way around, I really don’t have a clue.

But regardless of the truth, I’ll still be like, “Fuck your feelings.”

At a point in my life with my siblings, paletas we were dealing.

Around 6 or 7 am, your doorbell ringing,

Just to ask you if tamales you were feeling.

I might have shoulders I can go to,

but I choose to cry on my own.

I deal with my pain alone,

and when I lose myself,

I find myself alone

because some paths

I’m meant to walk

on my own.

You may say I’m stuck in my ways,

And that might be true,

But why would I change something I’m happy with and love,

Just to show you that I love you?

The question is, did you ever love me for me,

Or did you love the idea of someone

You thought you could make me be?

And if that’s true, did you ever fall for all of me,

Like I fell for all of you?

Meant To Be

If we’re meant to be, one day we will be.

Till then, I’m going to let you be.

Approach you as a friend because that’s all I can be.

Even though I carry feelings for you within me.

When I think, hear, or see you, they spark up instantly.

But I have to remain strong; I can’t let it get to me.

So I kick back with the homies, smoke some weed,

And not think about how it used to be.

My Light

Even though at times I might walk in the dark,

my light is illuminating the way.

It dims at times,

but as long as it doesn't go out,

I'll be okay.

I express myself better with a pen,

Letting the words flow as they tend,

To the pain and sadness I carry within.

Blinded by the light that my aura gleams,

The result of darker times I used to breathe.

Conservative with my life.

A Lasting Impression

Let me get at you like chocolate and roses with this poetry,

Keeping it old school when it comes to sweeping you off your feet.

Outdated, but it’s the purest thing to me.

Nowadays, that’s something you don’t see, but that doesn’t mean

There isn’t someone out there looking for that to receive.

I’d rather live within my means.

Why pretend to be someone who, in due time, through you’ll see?

Not trying to hide behind money and jewelry,

Expensive dinner dates, and every weekend new scenery.

'Cause I’m aiming for a lasting impression, not just the first-time impression.

A lasting connection, that when they speak of love, our relationship will be mentioned.
