Lily corked the bottle of wine and tossed it a Lyden. Since he was finally returning to normal he might want something to drink. Especially if he was going to be dealing with calming down Blake. As long as she didnât have to do it.
Blake paced until she noticed Lyden reaching for her, waiting until heâd caught the bottle of wine to let out a heavy sigh and sit down beside him. She sat with her shoulder against his, tapping her fingers against her knees, âIâm just worried about him. You know just as well as I do that he really canât take care of himself.â She turned her head to look at him - usually she wasnât this way, but extreme stress did funny things to her. Besides, she really wasnât sure how to calm down, Lyden helped but the stress and jittering didnât just disappear.
Lyden widened his eyes, âthatâs nearly an understatement.â No, that comment wouldnât make Blake feel better, but she wasnât under the impression that her brother was something he wasnât. He was shocked seeing James was still alive, but less so when he heard it was thanks to Blake. He tipped the bottle towards Lily in acknowledgement while addressing Blakeâs concerns. âI know youâre worried, but right now? Weâre the ones in more danger than him. With the disgusting looks Flap Jaw gives your brother, heâs not going to simply be left alone. Itâs better than nothing.â Taking a drink off the bottle of wine, he handed it over to Blake. She needed to de-stress more than he did.

Blake knew that all too well - if they didnât question Jamesâ intentions because of her name on a list, then they wouldnât very well be smart enough to consider themselves leaders. She took his hand, turning back in the direction of Lilyâs store. It was better to leave the talking until they got back into the store - where there wasnât a chance of someone turning a corner at any time. As they turned the corner, she spotted a couple of men walking with guns - guards. She put it together quick, tugging Lyden back into a shadowed wall and pulling him flush against her. Unsure if heâd seen them, her fingers were forceful on his neck as she kissed him, practically certain he would be able to tell how panicked she was. Just as the men yelled out at them, she pulled him tighter against her, praying theyâd keep walking and dismiss them as some horny couple out in the middle of the night.
Always with the goddamn yelling while on their fucking power trip. If they recognized them, all it would take is a shot to the leg for them both, and off they could take them. Blake had been quick enough, though. She noticed them before he had, so the chances of them getting a good look were slim. Groaning against her mouth, he put his hands on her hips and pulled her closer. The footsteps got louder and stopped, only for a rough voice to tell them to move it along before continuing along. Pricks. Lyden moved a hand up Blakeâs side, rubbing his thumb there to try and comfort her and said they were fine without having to pull away from her.

Lily snorted, she doubted Grant could even keep himself calm but he knew Blake was alive, she nodded all the same. She hadnât told him so much as hit him with the information but it was all to the same end. Sheâd have to put a new chisel in her belt. She made a face, drinking from her glass again. That was annoying. At least Grant was actually close to them and they had a plan. An insane one but a plan. Luckily Lyden apparently came out of the right uterus. Good for him. They might not die or get tortured immediately if caught.
Blake smiled just slightly with Lilyâs nod before turning back to Lyden. âI will take any shot that gets us remotely away from death and torture.â She admitted. When he began grumbling, she turned and began to pace, running her fingers over her face and through her hair. This whole thing was a mess. How was she stupid enough to get caught in the first place? Had she not been careful? And James was still out there - admittedly with Grant but they were both probably still freaking out.Â
Lyden nodded towards her with a smug expression and his eyebrows raised, âgood. Now that we have that sorted out,â he sat down and leaned his head against a wall, âIâm going to happily shut up.â Blake was obviously not up for sitting down with her moving about, so he reached for her from where he was, âworking yourself up more isnât going to help.â That went without saying, but how else could he try and tell her to settle down without sounding like a condescending prick? There was little else they could do, and spending all your energy like this would do more harm than good in the long run.

Blake sighed, cheek pressed against his shoulder. She knew he was right, but she still wanted to try to see James - to let him know that she was alright. But, Lily had agreed to take him a message, and she knew if she kept going against them sheâd only get yelled at. Lyden was calm now, but she knew heâd be furious if she kept running off. âSorry.. I know..â She muttered before she pulled out of his arms and adjusted the hat on her head. âIâm just worried that someoneâs gonna think he only works for the government to help me..â She sighed, angry about being so helpless in the situation. Sheâd known this was a danger from the start, but it was a recent development that James worked for the government.
âTheyâd be idiots if the thought didnât cross their minds,â Lyden started bluntly, âbut the fact of the matter is they have no evidence against him, no proof.â Not that they ever needed proof, they were on a list of Sirens without anything to back their claims. They happened to be right, but how many times were people locked up just for looking at someone the wrong way? He just hoped they wouldnât turn on other government workers for something as simple as a family tie. âLetâs get back, we can talk more there.â Where it didnât feel like someone may grab at them at any given moment.

âGrantâs looking for him.â Lily finally decided to chip in as she poured herself another cup of blood red wine. It was odd, she didnât think she had ever heard Lyden say so much in her entire time knowing him, and that was including the bar brawls. Whatever happened both of them would have to lay low for awhile, they had to know that. She swirled her wine around in the cup, eye the ruby contents before taking another drink. If anything the wine was helping re-hydrate her tongue.
Blake knew Lyden was right, so instead of freaking out about that she listened to him. He knew her way too well, because she had definitely been about to comment on his organizational skills. Flipping through the binder as he spoke, she pursed her lips before taking to chewing on her lower lip. âThis could work..â Blake nodded, and she was about to continue on when Lily spoke up. âGood.â She nodded, Grant would keep James safe. âDid you tell him I was safe?â Grant was probably about to have a conniption if she hadnât. She closed the binder and held it out to Lyden, âIf no one else says anything against us, it might work.. With James working for the government too.. and being the literal ball of innocent sunshine he is..â She shrugged, âIt might work.â If it didnât⊠whatâd happen? Theyâd have to leave, or be killed.
Lyden rolled his eyes when Grant was mentioned. Irritating knobhead of a man. âAs long as he can keep James calm.â He looked at Blake when he stated that, he didnât know much about naivetyâs relationship with  flap jaw, and he planned to keep it that way, but he felt a bit relieved that Blake seemed to take comfort in this. âI think it can buy us time. My family is hardly unheard of. All rich government pricks seem to know of each other. So, as long as we stick with the same story, temporarily weâll be fine. We still need to keep a low profile since itâs like we have a bounty over our heads. Still, when the timing feels right, I can talk to someone about this. I wonât be turning myself in as much as acting like the outraged son of my possibly-dead family. Itâs worth a shot, even if I have to act like Iâm loyal to the system.â Lyden nodded when she mentioned James, âexactly, his position in the government is actually quite helpful in this situation.â Running a hand through his hair, his grumbled a bit under his breath. He knew this was a mess, he was far from ignorant in that regard.
I have always been very careful not to describe myself as a role model because, like anyone in the world, I am human, and I fuck up and I make mistakes. I would never want anyone to make the same mistakes that I have made. I would never sit here and pretend to be a figure of morality because I am absolutely not.

Lily froze up at Blakeâs hug, letting out a sigh of relief when Blake turned her attention to Lyden. She should tell them about Grant but that could wait, at least until they collected themselves or she had a glass of wine. She returned Lydenâs nod, tossing around the amount she had already drunk that day before going over to the kitchen and pulling out a bottle and a glass anyway. She poured herself a glass at her table and resigned herself to watching the too talk. Sheâd probably have to move some of her inventory up here, at least a few chairs.
Blake closed her eyes when she felt the comforting pressure of Lydenâs hand on her head. It was nice to not have to act like she didnât care around him anymore. She opened her eyes and reached up, taking his hand from her head and squeezing it. âOkay,â She answered, âLily helped me out of a bit of a situation,â She glanced over to the woman, smiling a little, realizing sheâd been uncomfortable with the hug. Her attention turned back to Lyden again, and she shook her head, âI donât know how to get out of this one.â By now Lily knew they were actually sirens - or guessed - and she still helped them. âTheir list is right, Ly,â She sighed, releasing his hand to once again rub frustratedly at her face. Her head hurt. âAnd I donât know if James is ok.. god⊠he could be dead by now.â
Squeezing Blakeâs hand back, he gave her as much of a smile as he could manage to muster up. âJames isnât dead, youâre related, yes, but that doesnât automatically mean youâve followed the same path. Iâd assume freaking out would be what heâs doing at the moment, but not dying.â Lyden grabbed his binder and placed it in Blakeâs hands, âyeah, I know, I like organization,â he commented before Blake could think to. âThe only thing any of those papers accomplish is proving my parents were the head government officials back in Texas, and that I was there son. There is nothing included that says I walked out on them or changed my last name, for obvious reasons. I can buy little time with this for now. I donât know if my parents survived the breach or not, likely not, but if they somehow did, itâs not like anyone is getting in contact with them anytime soon to argue what Iâm saying. My story can be that I was working as a double agent for my family, worse comes to worse.â Taking in a deep breath, he gave Blake a pointed look, âif they listen to me, Iâll still be under watch, but I can say youâve been in on this with me too. That this was all a cover for you. Or, if we donât go with the cover story, I could simply vouch for you and how your family was always loyal to mind. Some bullshit like that thatâd have you still watched, yes, but thatâs it.â

Lily noted the knife in Lydenâs hand but made no comment. It wasnât unusual to have weapons out in this part of the middle ring. Luck seemed to be on her side, for once, as they reached her store without running into anyone else who knew who Lyden was. She unlocked her door and unceremoniously shoved him inside, quickly following and locking the door shut behind them. She spent no time pushing past him and going to the door to the upstairs. It was locked. Good. She had figured the girl wasnât an idiot. She unlocked the door grabbing him and pulling him up the stairs to where Blake was hopefully waiting.
Blake had gone upstairs as Lily had told her, locking the door behind her and worriedly pacing the length of the room as she waited for her to return and with who. She trusted Lily, so she had a strong idea that she wasnât going to get guards. She just hoped the Lyden was the one that she found. When she heard the door unlock, Blakeâs knife was in hand again and she tensed considerably before Lily came into view - and behind her, those stupid blonde locks that sheâd recognize anywhere. Shoving her knife away, she approached them a little quicker than she normally would have before hugging Lily quickly. âThank you,â She told the woman, stepping back before her eyes slipped to Lyden.
Lyden sighed in relief when Blake came into view, dropping his hand onto her head, âhey, howâre you holding up?â The answer to that question was pretty clear, if your name was on the list you certainly werenât as calm as you usually were able to be, but he still wanted to ask, regardless. He nodded towards Lily in thanks, before slowly pacing. âNow is likely as good a time as ever to think of how to deal with the mess weâre in,â he said gesturing to him and Blake. He didnât want to ask Lily for help, she had already helped more than he imagined anyone would have.
aceoflilies:
Lily shot him an unimpressed look as he freed his arm and gave her a pat on her shoulder. She slid her knife back into itâs sheath. Her tongue felt dry, she made a weird face as she tried to coat it with saliva again. How did Peter do it? Maybe he just slobbered a lot. He had drooled a lot in his sleep when they were younger. But it wasnât the time for pondering mouth moisture. She kept her eyes on their surroundings. With the back door still bared sheâd have to take Lyden in to the store through the front and she was not in the mood for another fight.
Lyden was thankful for the silence that followed instead of a bombard of questions. Yes, he was a Siren, the list made that quite obvious, didnât it? Lily wasnât an idiot, she didnât need to ask to know he was lying. He had never used the last name âRiderâ around her or acted like like proud son of government officials in the slightest, he would have boasted about that by now. Hell, he wouldnât be working in a bar. Anyone who knew his personality could put it together. This was all about buying time right now. Lying until something more organized was thought of. He followed silently behind Lily, a knife at hand. Wherever she was leading him, he trusted her more than most.
blakesbliss:
Blake had to think fast. She needed to get away from this guy. Her gun was too loud. Sheâd draw too much attention to herself. Pulling her knife from its hiding spot, she aimed to throw it at the guy just as another knife flew into the guys neck. She jumped, looking around to find the source of the knife, hearing Lyden hiss her name to her right. She spotted him, and ran over without a second glance to the guy clutching his gushing neck. Before she could think of what she was doing, she had her arms around him, more than relieved to know that he was safe.
âYou canât run out on your own, Blake,â he muttered, holding the girl close to him. âWeâre in more danger than your brother is right now, but weâll find him. We just have to play it smart and stick with Lily until we have a more concrete plan on what to do.â Lyden kissed the top of her head and dropped his shoulders. He wanted to believe he could keep lying his way around this, but he was obviously going to come off as suspicious, family ties or not. Meaning Blake still would more than be suspicious, even with Lyden backing her. No matter what story he spun, he was on their radar, and Blake even more so.
aceoflilies:
She was doing this so Blake would stop freaking out. Lily let out a grunt. Right, just like every time she âloosenedâ a chair at the bar it was so some ass-wipe would fall on said ass and stop annoying Lyden. Right. Fucking rude blondes. Sirenâs needed to protect their own better. Lydenâs shouting for once didnât give her a head ache and she headed in the direction of the yelling. Her elbow was still sore from Blake. She used it to get in between the guy with the damn binder and Lyden. âYou.â she spat out at him. âAre in so much fucking trouble Rider.â And she wasnât completely lying at this point. she pulled her fatherâs knife out from her back and pointed it at the guy. âThis ass is late for work because of you, apparently.â She growled up at him. âGo bother the right terrorist, and leave before I shove this into your ribs.â She grabbed Lydenâs arm behind her.
âAs in, read the damn information, the research has even been done for you,â Lyden hissed out, snatching the binder back and ripping out a few copies of documents he had that backed his claims, smacking the papers roughly against the manâs chest. Slipping his binder back into his bag, he waved at the guy, âyou heard her, late for work. So if you have another complaint, find me at work.â Lyden turned and walked off with Lily pulling at him; she seemed to have sufficiently terrified the man. âFucking asshole,â he muttered when they were out of hearing distance. His arm dropped from Lilyâs hold and he sighed, running a hand through his hair, âeven I have to admit that was badass. Didnât know that heroic, fearsome side was in you.â He patted he on the shoulder, which was his way of thanking her for saving his ass. Someone calling his former last name had been perfect on the spot thinking.
blakesbliss:
Blake stared, horrified, at the flyer hanging outside of her home. What was she going to do? Seeing her name third down on that list was not the nicest surprise - nor was seeing Lydenâs right at the top. She had to find him, make sure he was okay. But how was she going to get around without some angry government worker taking it upon themselves to punish her for her alignment? She could lie - she would lie - but that was more than likely not to work when someone was mad. Just as she was about to turn away from the flyer, she heard a yell, jumping and turning in the direction of the voice.
Lyden stayed around the corner. He was about to run out to Blake when he heard the manâs voice. Another official who theyâd likely be hard pressed to talk their way away from. Hell, who was he kidding, anyone with half a brain and a position of authority was going to give them a hard ass time now that they were both on that damned list. Standing up straight, he angled his hand, throwing dagger loosely held as he aimed for the guyâs eye. It was enough to distract him and get Blake out of there. Heâd have a fucking knife in his eye after all. He was a bit off in his aim, to say the least, and the guyâs neck started squirting out blood. Well, if he died, no big loss. âBlake,â Lyden hissed from a around the corner, waving her over to him.
Lyden shoved at the manâs chest, âRider, heard of it? The Texas base that fell, my family were the officials in charge of it, so fuck off. You want proof, Iâll get it for you if you give me a goddamn second!â The larger man caught his wrist before he could touch the binder he had pulled out and stuffed in his bag, triple checking the one he had for Siren business was safely stored, hidden away, at home. âThen you fucking look at it! Why would I go from the son of a wealthy government family to a filthy Siren? Sage isnât my last name. Iâm trying to find out if my parents are even alive, so look at the damn shit!â He was lying his ass off, and wouldnât be so pissed off if the person would just listen to him.
blakesbliss:
Blake normally wouldâve shrunk back from that angry expression on his face, or lashed out, but she knew he was drunk. She hoped he wasnât angry. Blake was right, and he knew it. The only thing that stopped them from making up was pride. They were both too fucking proud to admit that they were wrong, and she could only guess that heâd almost never admit to it. But then he surprised her, and she sat, staring at him in surprise. Sometimes Blake had wished that she was good enough for him to feel like he was doing something with his life, but she knew that neither of them were like that. They both needed to do something bigger to feel like they had a purpose. âI can do that,â She muttered against his lips.
He wouldnât admit that he was happy about this, but then again, he wouldnât admit a lot, so he supposed that was the norm concerning him. Not that he wasnât slightly irritated so got to him, but that was drowned out by everything else. âI hope you know Iâm not drunk enough to forget. I havenât blacked out, so youâre stuck with your idiotic choices.â There would likely be more questions, more fights, more conflicting ideals, and despite how unnecessary it all seemed, he knew it was worth it. For some stupid, unfathomable reason, she was worth it.
ashtonmaxwell:
âFuck.â Ashton muttered as he held the flyer between his hands, taking in the names, his name. He was torn between panicking, making sure his guns were loaded and finding whoever sold him and his comrades out and killing them. He thought this would be over, that he wouldnât have to deal with the government knowing exactly who he was. He didnât know if he could go another round of torture right now, they would probably have to kill him, in fact he knew they would. He herd footsteps near him, dropping the flyer Ashtonâs hand was raising the pistol in front of him in seconds, narrowing his eyes at his figure in the dark. âGive me one good reason I shouldnât shoot you.â
Lyden held up his creased flyer and pointed to his name up at the top, âIâm on here, too. Iâve seen you before, Ashton, right? Your name is after mine.â Pulling out one of his throwing knives from his back pocket, his eyes kept looking around, not paying much attention to Ashton when someone who recognized them could walk up and turn them in, or kill them, either or. âDo you have a plan for all of this? Shooting isnât the best idea in the world since youâll attract attention to yourself, more so than this list already does for you.â
