tell me my prof didn’t upload the reading by photocopying his kindle reader page by page
bruh
nothing funnier to me than when AI does math wrong. like I get why it happens, it's a language model that's treating the numbers you feed it as words rather than integers and then giving you an answer based on how those words typically appear in a block of text instead of actually performing a calculation. but the one thing computers are genuinely incredible at. you fucked up a perfectly good calculator is what you did, look at it it's got hallucinations
The little girl in me is screaming in delight🥹
Ok, really not tryna vague or be shady, but I just gotta say: I do not and will never understand why there's so much drama around ships becoming canon or not.
Seriously, why do you care. Is your ship game that weak? Do you need a stamp of approval from other people for what you like and how you creatively express yourself? Because, sorry, but that's technically what that is and you don't need it.
C'mere. Come to auntie. Listen. I multiship like crazy and lots of weird and niche rare pairs too. Whenever any of my ships become canon that's pretty much an accident and a statistical outlier and because I just happened to like what the creators like for once. And then I usually think "oh that's nice" and go on with my madness. No getting smug and using it to put others down either!
I'm telling you this because I simply can't stress enough how much more chill and fun shipping is if you become deeply unbothered by what's canon, what the creators think and what other people approve of. Again, you need nobody's stamp of approval. And if people nag and bully you about what you like then these people suck and they have no right to demand explanations from you.
Make your case not to justify yourself to bullies - they won't be convinced anyway - but to get other people interested. Make your case through your art, your writing, your headcanons, your conversations with other fans. Make your case through passion.
And stop letting others tell you what you can and can't ship. Which goes both ways, just saying.
Ok, that's it, bye
Also: Your ship becoming canon can be a real monkey's-paw situation. Just ask Moonlighting, which lost all its appeal and ended up canceled after the lead characters finally got together.
Don't worry about whether it's canon. It's more fun that way.
smartphone storage plateauing in favor of just storing everything in the cloud is such dogshit. i should be able to have like a fucking terabyte of data on my phone at this point. i hate the fucking cloud
this is gonna make me sound very Old Man Yells At Cloud but i just hate how many things in my life assume i will always have access to a quick, reliable internet connection and almost cease to function without it. Obviously certain things Have To Have An Internet Connection, but i want to be able to listen to music if my service is bad. i want to still watch movies if Netflix is down. i want to have a working map when i can’t get a cell signal. nearly every tech product these days bears the fingerprint of the extremely internet-rich places they are developed, high rent offices in Seattle, San Francisco, etc.. I think often the idea of the internet not being available is so remote to them it doesn’t even factor in to development. i remember when the Xbox One was debuted and Microsoft was almost mockingly like “if you don’t have reliable fast internet, then don’t bother buying this”, and there was such backlash they completely went back on so much of that. But now that attitude is just the tech norm.
No you're right and you should say it

Please join me in imagining THE ADVENTURE OF THE COPPER BEECHES from the perspective of a girlfailure with great hair, as she attempts to shoot her shot with a famous detective and make some money. Neither of these work out for her particularly well, but she comes out of it with a great story to tell at parties.
this is part 1, there will be a part 2!
(This is part of the Watson's sketchbook series)
I'm collecting a list of Short Stories That Fucked Us Up As Children. reblog and tell me what I'm missing.

the monkey's paw
I'll add a poll in case it helps haha
which short story messed you up the most?
one of the stories already listed
a different one I'll tell you to add
no short stories but a novel did
no short stories but a different form of story (poem, play, film, etc) did
no story has ever messed me up what's wrong with all of your childhoods
I intend to celebrate the date mentioned in the short story that MOST messed me up as a kid,. Assuming we survive. It's only two yearsish. We should make it.
There Will Come Soft Rains by Ray Bradbury ends on August 5th 2026. Set your calendars.
But Bradbury wrote a fair number of stories that messed me up.
A Sound of Thunder (I think this was actually the first Ray Bradbury story I ever read)
The Fall of the House of Usher II
Pillar of Fire
Marionette, Inc. (Read this and then stream the 70's movie, The Stepford Wives, you'll have enough nightmares to last you a life time)
The Veldt
The Long Rain
Gotcha!
The Toynbee Convector (This is a pretty safe one, I don't think it was a reasonable story to be messed up by. I just have trust issues. See, Gotcha!)
The Aqueduct
The Small Assassin
Probably a fair few others, too. Bradbury definitely had a little thread of the macabre running through his stuff. Put everything together in The Martian Chronicles and it is not a happy picture it is painting. Even Night Meeting, one of my all time favorite short stories, and actually pretty sweet and beautiful, can be existentially dreadful if you think too hard about it.
Some more stories that F'd me up as a young'un (or which you could have read as a kid that could have MESSED YOU UP but I did actually read after being young):
All You Zombies by Robert Heinlein
Equinotical by John Varley
Seven Views of Olduvai Gorge by Mike Resnick
Kirinyaga by Mike Resnick
Think Like a Dinosaur by James Patrick Kelly
The Ones Who Walk Away from Omelas by by Ursula K LeGuin
The Store of Worlds By Robert Sheckley
All the Last Wars at Once by George Alec Effinger
I Have No Mouth But I Must Scream by Harlan Ellison
Grail by Harlan Ellison
The Time of the Eye by Harlan Ellison
Jeffty is Fife by Harlan Ellison
The Lingering Scent of Woodsmoke by Harlan Ellison
Shatterday by Harlan Ellison
Let's Go to Golgotha by Garry Kilworth
Mars Attacks by Jim Sheppard
Only a Mother by Judith Merrill (another all time favorite story)
The Dead by Michael Swanwick
The Last Homosexual by Paul Park
Love Is the Plan the Plan Is Death by James Tiptree, Jr.
Nightfall by Isaac Asimov (second place in the messed me up awards)
Runaround by Isaac Asimov (not actually messed up in-text but I FELT this one as an emotional metaphor)
Spell My Name with an S by Isaac Asimov
Twilight by John W. Campbell
And that's probably more than enough from me, since the possibility it's any of these is fairly low.
The Veldt was FUCKED UP. (I love Bradbury.)
My high school creative writing teacher made us read A Rose for Emily, by William Faulkner, and we were all pretty horrified by that one.
On the subject of There Will Come Soft Rains, there's a beautiful soviet animated adaptation from 1984:
Not a short story but All Tomorrows fucked me up SO bad. You can find it on archive.org if you would also like to get fucked up.
Me getting a new fic idea:
Clara Entwhistle in the foundry
Daily News, New York, September 7, 1925
So I've gathered that the Blaseball fandom is particularly good at organizing this kinda stuff. That and my first attempt to get rid of Jaylen (which btw the idea was that people would be too lazy to explain Blaseball and just vote batman) only served to spread this blog throughout said fandom more then any other other fandom featured on this blog.
These unfortunate set of circumstances have created a very difficult to defeat foe. I will need to think long and hard about if there is anything I can even do, or if I just have to wait for Jaylen to win fair and square.
The game is on Blaseball fandom. If I have anything to say about it you will not win this bracket.
Building a collection of Fleet versus Clara's reactions to automatons in High Vaultage, which can be summarised as:
Clara: Delight and politeness
Fleet: Kill Bill sirens.

FAQ
What is the WIP Big Bang? Good question! This is a Big Bang with one goal in mind: to clean out your fanfic drafts folder. These are stories that were unfinished for whatever reason, that authors returned to and completed, and the art that goes with them!
Do I need a Livejournal/Dreamwidth/AO3/etc. account to participate? No! You don’t have to have an account on anything to participate, though you will need to have somewhere to post your finished work. Having one or more accounts will help for you to follow what is going on with the bang (we crosspost to Dreamwidth and Tumblr and heavily use our Discord server at the moment), but they are not required to participate. You can always leave comments anonymously or with an opensource ID.
How many fics can we sign up for? We absolutely don’t mind multiple sign-ups. I know one year someone submitted 50 fics to finish, and got at least half of them done. We just ask that when you sign up with more than one fic you give each fic a unique user ID (please do not use the same ID for all your fics...it’s important to have different IDs for the check-ins).
Will I get emails about the bang? We do send out some emails, mostly for snippets and art claims and to ensure communication between authors and artists, but please do NOT rely on getting an email to remind you of due dates. We currently do not keep an updated email list of participants, so we only send individual emails as needed rather than mass emails.
However, email is the fastest way to communicate with the mods. If you have any questions or are having trouble communicating with your artist/author, please do email us! We will do our best to respond quickly.
Welcome to the eleventh annual WIP Big Bang! If you're interested in signing up and have read all our FAQs ( https://wipbigbang.dreamwidth.o

narratively I am a fan of romances that don’t ever actually become romances
I don’t mean in an aromantic life partner way, I mean romantic tension that is never resolved or acted upon for whatever reason but by the end it’s clear that both characters experienced the love of their lives without ever acknowledging it as such. but they know. they know.
this is the post that I’ve had like five people accuse me of romanticizing fucked up and traumatizing relationships in fiction about btw
