Headcanon that Shadow didn’t go super in Sonic Heroes because he has PTSD from SA2.
Headcanon that the first time Shadow went super with Sonic again in Sonic ‘06, Sonic literally was glancing at Shadow every five seconds during battle. Made sure he was in his line of sight at all times. Did not want to see a falling star again. Would not let that happen because he has PTSD from SA2.
So, we know the official listed heights of both Sonic and Shadow are 3 feet 3 inches, or 100 centimeters. It's also somewhat surmised by the fandom at large that Shadow's Air Shoes add to his height and that he may actually be shorter than Sonic.
Taking a look at this official chart comparing Sonic and Shadow's heights, we can see the point where Shadow's shoes become flattened around midway up the height of the shoe (notice the top of the bend in between the skates). If we were to cut off everything below this plane, the chart would look more like this:
In the above image, the faint red line denotes a height of 100 centimeters. The solid opaque red line denotes Shadow's actual height with the shoe platforms removed, which is located at approximately 95 centimeters. This would put Shadow's true height at roughly 3 feet 1 inch.
So my partner and I created some fan-parents for Sonic. He has a dad and a parent. Sonic was created lab-baby style and thus some dormant genetics regarding his brighter color and eyes came through. He was also born with female characteristics. They were not expecting him to have super-speed either as neither of them possess such abilities.

His father, Dwight, has lightning powers that he will later display and unlock via Frontiers. Ja’ni, his parent, can control and create ether which is the substance through which all life and matter exist and it comes through as star and space-like abilities which lends to Sonic’s future fascination with stars, space, and similar.
Dwight has always been a very cutthroat man, ever since his parents were murdered by GUN-like wannabes for simply being super-powered Mobians- something that the humans never were fond of.
However, his resentment and rage goes unchecked and starts to bleed into how he intends to raise Sonic. He reveals plans to Ja’ni about growing the child into being a sort of super-soldier and leading a resistance against the humans. He wishes for Sonic to be his legacy and to assist him in carrying out his plans to wipe humanity off the face of Mobius and take back their planet. He wants to protect Sonic and his family.
Ja’ni only wishes for Sonic to be a kid and not have to worry about starting a war that he never chose to be a part of. After trying to change Dwight’s mind and failing countless of times, Ja’ni makes a difficult decision.
In the dead of night, Ja’ni ends up stealing Sonic away, traveling across several dimensions, and surrendering him to a group of owls, one of which is Longclaw, to be raised into a happy life away from the hardships and conditioning he would have faced. In this dimension, Longclaw is not killed.
Ja’ni sticks around in the dimension, but takes care to never interfere with Sonic’s life, only keeping tabs on him to make sure he’s… alive. And Sonic seems all the better for it. He’s made a lot of friends, is a world-renowned hero, plus, he’s trans, so that’s cool! Good for him!
But there may come a day where they are all reunited. Especially, when a certain father discovers the dimension where his son has been taken to. However, things are not quite as they were before and that has its own unique challenges.

i feel like shadow had formed an attraction to sonic around the time of them turning super to defeat the biolizard, even though he didn't know it at the time. how sonic carried himself, his silent confidence and strength, and just the raw energy he had captivated shadow in ways he didn't understand.
but in terms of actually falling in love, i've always considered it to be in much less dangerous moments, more of the mundane, slow kind, like going for a walk together or sitting under a tree. i think shadow would realize, in those times, how much sonic actually means to him.
( personally, i think '06 would have one of those times where they just sit down and take everything in )
for sonic, it's a gradual thing. at first, he's simply interested in getting to know shadow and understanding him more, but respects that shadow might not want that ( he does ), so keeps his distance.
i get why people have it so sonic initiates their friendship, but i feel like shadow would, too. because he wants to know and understand sonic as well.
overtime, sonic learns about shadow's past, what he likes, what he doesn't like, and shadow gets to learn the same ( though, strangely, it's a little harder to get out of the blue hedgehog than he expected ), and they form a connection that maybe no one else but them can fully understand.
and it's only when that connection is formed that sonic develops feelings for shadow and falls in love, too.
i personally don't have the idea they're rivals post-SA2, since i think it defeats the whole point of shadow realizing what being the ultimate lifeform actually is and how he sees sonic, and the point of them setting aside their egos to protect the things that matter.
( that and, honestly, the fandom has kinda made them being rivals a sour note for me. for a lot of reasons. )
so, all and all, my personal hc of sonadow ( in most of the games // media ) is that they're enemies to allies to friends to best friends to lovers, includes shadow simping. slow burn, baby.

yippeee! Silver's like one of my favorite little guys in Sonic I love yapping Abt him
One of my fav headcanons I've seen is that Silver will eat literally anything, being from a future where he could only get ration bars. A cake Amy's baking doesn't turn out right? He'll take it. Cream's weird gelatin cake thing from IDW? He'll eat it.
His favorite food is apples though. He likes watching them grow and picking them himself. Vanilla, Amy, and Cream all worked together to make him an apple pie for his birthday or something and he almost cried
He doesn't actually know nor celebrate his birthday. April 5th is just what was decided upon because that's when he first came from the future to the present
The longer he's in the present, the more he acts like a fourteen-year-old. He goes from determined and on edge to naive and silly after a few weeks because he finally feels safe.
Bisexual DISASTER. I ship him with Blaze and Espio (ultimately, I like Silvaze the best, but Espilver is always a treat to see) and I see him as just being an absolute dork around them.
Might just be me as a silver kin but I totally see him as having anxiety and ADHD. I hc him as stimming by waving his hands or pulling his big ol quills on the back of his head
I also hc that he has PTSD from his time in the future and is heavily averse to fire. He has chronic migraines from his powers.
He has a very vague recollection of '06. It's what worsens his fire paranoia.
I actually also hc him as lactose intolerant. Random thing, but tbh I think it kinda fits. He doesn't care though. He'll eat ice cream if he wants to
Can and will crush your head like an empty soda can. Everyone forgets how strong he is until they're fighting Eggman bots or goofing around and this guy picks up a huge rock or a bot and crushes it like a soda can without even trying
He's got a bunch of burn scars hidden by fur. Most are on his hands and feet, so you can't tell unless he takes his gloves and boots off. On that note his hands shake a ton too. I'll prolly draw smth of it later.

He's a dad to the other two. they're such a found family it makes me ill.
Found Espio when he was 14/15 and when Es was 10/11 and then found Charmy a little later at 18 when four year old Charmy flew up to him and asked for candy
He looooves old noir tv shows. The ones in like black and white. They inspired him to make the Chaotix a detective agency in the first place.
He's actually partially deaf because of his roar, that's why he wears his headphones. He has hearing aids he wears too
Absolutely a girldad to Cream even if he and Vanilla aren't romantically involved. He'll babysit her and Vanilla comes home to see them having a tea party while wearing pretty pink dresses
His fire breath actually leaves him with a messed up throat for about a day afterwards. It's really irritated, so he basically pouts in silence because it feels weird to speak
He's awful at paying bills because he forgets to set aside money for them. He'll have their food money, stuff like that, then he'll use the restto get stuff that Espio and Charmy want, but he forgets to set aside some bill money
His wallet is filled with all sorts of pictures of Espio and Charmy. It'll be pictures like Charmy's first steps, or Espio after saying his first word in English, stuff like that.
On that same note, he has a shelf in his area of the agency that's covered in stuff Charmy gives him. Leaves, sticks, art, stuff like that. Espio's bought him a world's best dad mug that he keeps up there instead of using it because he wants to keep it in perfect condition
He listens to a bunch of different genres of songs, but I think it would be funny if his guilty pleasure was like the Mobian equivalent to Olivia Rodrigo or Taylor Swift or something.
Espio actually got him the gold chain. It's fake, and he knows it, but he appreciates the thought
Along w only having three fingers, his are webbed! He has special gloves he wears because of it
Espio:
Somehow got lost in the city before meeting Vector, doesn't actually know his real parents
Japanese is his first language. It took him a while to learn English, but whenever he gets pissed, he starts speaking Japanese
He's naturally left handed, but can do stuff with both due to being forced to learn when he was younger. (Fun fact; in japan up until about 20/30 years ago, using your left hand was considered impolite, and many parents "corrected" it.)
Now this one is just my inner rarepair shipper coming out but he has a little crush on Shadow. He gets really awkward around him. (This applies to Silver as well, even if shadow/Espio is my primary pairing for him)
He has painted nails and eyeliner. They're painted black btw
I also hc him to only have three fingers. It's because he's a reptile, I also have the same hc for vector! His gloves and shoes also have holes in them so he can stick to walls
Also me prolly being an Espio kinnie I say he's socially awkward and has eldest daughter syndrome and anxiety.
I also say he has autism. He stims by fiddling w his hands or wrapping his tail around his legs
He's also got PTSD from the Metal Virus arc, and for a while he refused to sleep until he knew each of his family members were safe. After that, he still can't sleep alone
His guilty pleasure is that he loves kpop music. he'd die if he got caught listening to blackpink
He's watched the wild robot w vector and charmy and cried because of it. Of course he won't admit it but he really emphasized w Roz in the movie (vector cried a bit as well)
Idk why but I always like giving him scarves. I just think it fits
He calls Charmy "Imouto" (Little brother) and Vector "Otosan" or more rarely "Chichi" (Father) (I'm not japanese and used Google pls tell me if I'm wrong)
Scarily flexible. He once dodged a hit by folding his body completely in half and everyone thought he died or broke his spine but no he popped back up completely fine
Charmy:
Everyone thinks he's an ipad kid but he definitely isn't. He plays outside a ton and probably doesn't have an ipad. he hears a kid on the playground say skibidi and cringes
In literally any Espio ship he and Cream pester Espio about it. Peak little brother behavior, he even mentions little embarrassing things Espio has done
Definitely has ADHD and a little PTSD from the Metal Virus. He hates it when people grab his ankles, and for a bit refused to go anywhere without Vector or Espio
His antenna are super sensitive; like, feel vibrations in the air sensitive. He can smell using them too.
He hates water because if his wings and antennas get wet, he's basically both grounded and sensory deprived.
He saw one (1) prank video on YouTube somehow and is obsessed with pranks now. He doesn't do any that are actually dangerous tho, just stuff like switching frosting with mayo and stuff like that.
Espio's taught him Japanese. Whenever he gets kidnapped, he speaks Japanese as a kind of code
He gets sugar rushes reaaaally easily. He gets super fast and hyper but when he crashes it's just an immediate passing out. He can't have more than two bowls of m&ms every few hours
Also likes art, he gets lessons from Espio.
He's a menace to enemies. He's so small and fast that it's impossible to grab him
During the Eggman war, no one actually told Charmy they were in a war so they didn't worry him. He found out anyway but didn't tell anyone, because all it did was make him more determined to help end it so his friends didn't have to worry and be scared

Despite physically aging faster in his developmental years there was just a solid year that Shadow was a toddler. A toddler who could break a steel beam in half running around with no inhibitors helping his sister steal cookies
Eepy lil guy. He'd never sleep unless he was snuggled with Maria and would cry until he was brought to her
He was like a baby doll to Maria, she'd dress him up and carry him around. He loved it, he got to spend time w his big sis
The scientists and doctors there took some of his blood a lot to see if it would help maria, she was always sad when he came back because he was lethargic
Maria and Shadow drew together, he still has pictures she drew him to this day
They also liked stargazing. They made up names for the constellations together
Post-Ark
He has a pair of blue mary-janes he bought and keeps in a box in his closet because they looked exactly like Maria's
Blue is his favorite color because of her
He has a locket with her, Gerald, and him that's stored in his chest fluff.
Without his inhibitors, Shadow is actually naturally stronger and faster than Sonic, but the inhibitors dull his power a bit. His shoes are actually controlled by chaos energy that he uses to power them
Verryyyy bisexual; had a thing for sonic, amy, knuckles, blaze, and espio in that order (I actually ship him w Espio the most :D)
He has autism, ADHD, and PTSD. His stim is that he'll fluff his quills like he does in the games, or if he's not wearing gloves, bite his claws.
Whenever he uses guns, he actually has earbuds or something in because the sound of gunshots are triggering to him. He uses them because they're efficient but he makes sure he can't hear the sound first
He gets chronic migraines and joint pain as a side effect from being in stasis for 50 years.
Uses new slang very wrong. He said something wasn't very skibidi once and Sonic died on the spot
His black arms biology makes him have a long whip/like tail, and only three fingers. He's also colorblind because of it.
He knows literally everything about motorcycles and guns. You ask him what kind of gun was used in like... Any major event and he can tell you the exact model, same thing with motorcycles

With Sonic Gens re-releasing I have been thinking about the difference in Classic and Modern and wanted to draw them side by side. I'll post some more in depth notes under the cut

Classic
-The brown quills in his fur are actually just clumps of dirt, Sonic was never brown
-His old sneakers were not made for his speed and that's why the soles are burnt
-He has mix matched socks due to just not having a lot of clothes after he left home, he probably stole one of the socks
-His quills are much messier since he has no idea how to take care of them.
-His fur is naturally that light blue, it only got darker due to repeated exposure to Chaos Energy
Modern
-Has shoes specifically made for his speed, courtesy of Tails
-Has black sports tape because I like the Boom designs and he probably needs it with how much he runs and parkours
-His Cyber scars change color, they're typically cyan but on a bad day they're red
-His Chaos markings can change color, but it takes some intense emotions to change them, Cyan (which is associated with the Cyan Emerald, and thusly, Hope) is the most common color.
-The Cyber regulators were originally intended to be Inhibitor Rings, like Shadow's, but Sonic doesn't like putting anything on his wrist after the events of Sonic Forces (rewrite), where he was put in Chaos Suppression cuffs that made him barely able to move
-He's actually only 17, but he spent a year in Camelot (although only a few minutes went by on Mobius) and experienced a birthday there. His next birthday after that was Generations
How do you think present Rouge would interact with Classic Sonic from Generations? Does she let any of his future 'adventures' (wink, wink) slip?
I never thought about this, but personally, I think Rouge would treat him more like a "precious babbu" than she would Modern Sonic. In fact, the way she would interact with Classic Sonic would probably be more in line with the way she treats Tails.
as of this most recent game, we’ve now seen maria snapped at black doom - a literal space demon thing that looks like THAT - on top of smiling through gunshot wounds while saving shadow and telling him to protect earth’s people - despite being actively murdered by said people. maria is an unflappable badass and fucking FEARLESS, especially when a situation calls for her to defend shadow. if she’d lived in don’t think shadow would have fought a day in his life, because she would have mowed down any potential threat to him before he even realized what was happening
Sonic and Knuckles have such a successful partnership despite their contrasting ways of life because they both cherish their allotted alone time.
Knuckles likes to have periods of peace where he can guard the emerald without interruption, and Sonic enjoys his solo runs and relaxation as much as he enjoys spending time with his friends.
They each get their much needed solo decompression time, and just when they're starting to feel like maybe they could use some company, Knuckles steps away from the emerald just as Sonic comes into view across Angel Island.
