Welcome to My Attempts to Expand and Explore the Star Fox World.
Hello! I'm MJ (she/her, adult) a Star Fox fan and fanfiction writer. This is my little corner of the internet where I get to ramble about my favorite video game series as well as my own project: Star Fox Restored.
You can find Star Fox Restored on AO3, as well as Spaces Between which is a series of oneshots that take place in the Star Fox Restored universe.
I also just enjoy taking about Star Fox in general. You'll find many posts about the games, characters, and other such things. Below, you'll find some tags that may interest you:
🦕 look at this! - Small details and other things I've noticed in Star Fox.
As I am a writer and this blog is partially about my own take on the Star Fox world, I do have some tags specific to my series:
Star Fox Restored - Posts about my series in general.
Character Cameos - Posts highlighting obscure characters that have appeared in my series.
Boss Beater - Posts highlighting the bosses that have shown up so far.
With my Star Fox series, I intend to really dive into the characters and lore. Exploring things such as just what it was Fox saw on Venom - a ghost? James McCloud actually alive? - or why Andross wanted to conquer the Lylat System. As well as just being a love letter to the franchise as a whole. I want to bring in as much as I can from forgotten characters to little references to cameo appearances.
Speaking of writing, my ask box is always open for questions about my works or Star Fox in general. Or, if you'd like, you can send in the name of two Star Fox characters, and I'll write a short blurb of them interacting.
I love this detail of the lens folding back. Like I noticed Fox moving the lens down at the start of training, but I like that we can also just see the lens in its folded back position.
Could you write something platonic focused ?? Involving Fox, slippy and falco (2026) ?? I just need them being bros
Send Star Fox characters for a short blurb!
Ooh 2026 versions of the boys. This is going to be fun. (Gosh I love their dynamics in the new game so far.) Just the boys playing some game while Slippy is nerding out about the warp zone 😂
I cannot wait until the full game comes out. Anyway, enough of my rambling, let's see what these three troublemakers get up to.
For the moment, all was quiet on the Great Fox. For a moment.
"Hey! That was mine!" Falco nearly growled.
"Should have moved faster then," Fox answered, the corner of his mouth pulling up in a smug smirk.
Slippy glanced at his monitor, displaying the simulation Falco and Fox were running. It was the training simulator... or it had been. Falco had disabled the safety protocols and upped the difficulty... and possibly made some other modifications as well while they weren't looking.
Slippy wasn't too bothered by any of that. He'd be able to reset it easily enough... once he got time. Besides, it was entertaining watching Fox and Falco. He was eager to see who would win the rematch.
Although... given the program had already been tampered with... what was the harm of making a few other tweaks?
Despite the fact he was supposed to be calibrating the Great Fox's sensors to better pick up on warp energy signatures, Slippy switched to a different tab.
His fingers flew across the keyboard. With one last button press he turned back to the other monitor. It took only a minute for his implementations to appear.
"Is that a freakin' paper plane?!" Falco demanded.
"Looks like it," Fox said. Hyper lasers tore through the enemy easily enough but could do nothing for the other paper planes that flew into the arena. "Guess you messed with the code a little too much."
"Ey! I haven't messed with it since I took care of the buzzkills," Falco retorted. He fired a bomb, taking out another squadron of the paper plane enemies.
Slippy smirked to himself as he started typing again.
"What the- Am I trippin' or somethin'?!" Falco demanded.
All around them, the background had become planets with faces, distorting and warbling without rhyme or reason.
"You really messed up this simulation huh?" Fox sighed.
"Ey! Ey! I haven't touched it!" Falco protested. "I don't know what any of this is!"
The arwings continued shooting at the paper planes, though Fox's shots slowed. Slippy glanced over to see Fox frowning beneath his visor headset.
His ear flicked, his head moved, not able to look over at Slippy's console but instinctively trying anyway. "Slippy."
"What?" He asked innocently. He couldn't help the nervous chuckle that escaped.
"Oh you're dead meat pal!" Falco snarled. A moment later his visor was flying across the room and a blur of blue feathers was flying over the divider.
Slippy shrieked, abandoning his console. He scrambled out of his chair, across the floor, then launching to the other side of the bridge.
Fox stood with a sigh, dropping his headset visor on the cushions. Otherwise, he made no move to help either of them. Instead, he just crossed his arms over his chest, watching them with vague interest.
Slippy aimed for him. If nothing else, he'd slow Falco down when they collided. He dodged around Fox, jumping onto the couch then over the back of it.
Fox was smart enough to get out of the way. Falco missed the jump, his foot catching on the edge of the cushion. He squawked a curse as he fell.
Now if he could just get off the bridge before Falco regained his feet...
The bridge doors slid open and Slippy launched towards freedom. Only to squeak in surprise and tried desperately to stop when he saw who was there.
His efforts were for nothing as he tripped and pitched forward. A pair of hands caught him and Slippy raised his head, giving Peppy a sheepish look. "Heh. Hi..."
Peppy sighed. "Do I even want to know what ya three are up t' now?"
"Nah," Fox answered with a nonchalant shrug. "Don't worry about it, Pep."
So for science™ I've been shooting my teammates in the demo because I have discovered in Star Fox 2026 the guys have multiple lines of dialogue for friendly fire and which line they say is randomized.
I've got screenshots of Peppy's lines and Falco's. However, despite Slippy canonically being the worst pilot, I apparently can't hit him! He's the ONLY one who is actually good at evading my shots? What the hell?
(I'm joking btw. I find this absolutely hilarious. I do need Slippy's friendly fire lines tho so I guess I'm going back to Meteo later today.)
So, I noticed something while playing through Meteo...
As we fly through Meteo, Slippy makes the following comments about the tunnels:
These tunnels are not natural. Something is causing them. That something is:
I love that this game not only gave us foreshadowing for the boss of the level but also went ahead and explained the random tunnels in Meteo.
It's stuff like this that makes me excited for this game despite its status as a remake. Are we going to be told more about the state of Titania? Of Aquas? Are we actually going to hear about Macbeth's Birnam wood so it's no longer just hidden lore in one of the manuals?
I think I remember seeing that you're also a Zelda fan. What do you think of the OOT remake?
I am a Zelda fan. Honestly, I currently feel nothing about the OoT remake. I mean... that teaser gave us nothing. We see the tapestry with the Great Deku Tree and we see Link having his nightmare with the Triforce of Courage lighting up on the back of his hand. That's it.
We aren't told if there will be new lore. We aren't told how similar it will be to the old game. We get to see it's a more realistic art style and that's kind of it.
We have SO much for The Legend of Zelda. I have four games on my shelf - five if we want to count my sibling's game I can borrow at any time - far more than that if you include all that's on the NSO.
For me to be hyped for a Zelda game I need more than just "it exists". Especially for a game like Ocarina of Time that, tbh, I never finished. I got stuck fighting King Dodongo as a kid, then when I tried going back to it after Breath of the Wild it just felt so restrictive to the point of not being fun.
(There's this one house in Kokiri Forest that you cannot go around. Because there is a root that sticks up like two inches. Link doesn't need to jump to get over this root. He could just step over it. But nope! It's an unpassable obstacle! 🙃)
With Star Fox 2026, it's a remake of N64 with updated graphics. However, we're also getting new cutscenes, new dialogue, basically a new take on the story and characters. Also, it just feels nice to play.
I don't think I'll actually get excited for the new OoT until there's a demo to play, or we see more that tells us if it's more than just a remake like Star Fox 2026 or if it's just straight up "OoT but it looks prettier now".
Even then, I still don't think I'll get the new OoT. At least, not right away. This year has already been surprisingly video game heavy for me (for reference, I usually get a new game once every couple of years... I'm already up to 2 games this year - 3 in the last twelve months since Age of Imprisonment came out last November) and video games are expensive.
After Star Fox 2026 I'm probably not going to buy any other video games until sometime next year or the year after.
May I request something with Fox and Lucy? I wonder about their potential dynamic a lot.
Send 2 Star Fox characters for a short blurb!
I apologize for how long it took me to get to this. I had so many ideas for Fox and Lucy it was hard to decide which one to go with 😅 I love writing these two so much.
Fox sighed as he dropped onto the couch. Star Fox was currently on a mission to escort a scientific team to the site of some strange anomaly. Then, once they reached the anomaly, Star Fox was to guard and assist the scientific team.
On top of all of that, the team was using Great Fox as their base of operations. Fox didn't exactly like that, but he had no reason to protest either. Sure, he could have refused, but what was the point?
It was harder to be separated from the scientific team if they were literally on the mothership. He wasn't exactly thrilled to have a bunch of strangers on his ship, but the scientists seemed to be keeping to themselves and their lab for the most part.
All except for one.
As if summoned by his thoughts, the doors to the lounge slid open and one of the science team's astrophysicists walked in. Her smock had been removed, leaving her in just a loose fit t-shirt and jeans.
"Doctor Cottontail," he greeted, trying to keep his smirk off his face.
"Oh, don't even!" Lucy scoffed. "You know I'm not giving up my name. Besides, Bonnie and I aren't getting married until next year."
He couldn't help but laugh at her reaction. It never got old. "Speaking of, where is Bonnie? Hiding with the rest of your team?"
"What can I say? She takes her duties as a guard seriously." Lucy shrugged. She dropped onto the couch beside him. "I think my colleagues are very... nervous about this assignment."
"Because of the anomaly? Or because they're on a ship with a band of mercenaries?" Fox asked, raising a brow.
"A band of mercenaries that also happen to be war heroes," Lucy reminded him. She shook her head, "I think they're intimidated."
"Intimidated?" Fox repeated. More surprised at Lucy's seeming disbelief than the concept itself. He knew Star Fox could be intimidating. It was a reputation they'd worked hard to earn.
"Yeah, intimidated." She bumped his shoulder with her own, "You, intimidating... they're hilarious."
"They didn't grow up with me like you did," he reminded her.
"I can tell." Her amusement faded, the corners of her mouth tilted downward ever so slightly. "It's just... strange. Seeing you and Papa through their eyes."
"You know what mercenaries are, Luce." It was his turn to shrug. "I don't blame them for being a little intimidated."
"I know," she sighed, "I know. I just..." She shook her head. "Nevermind."
Starting to get the nagging feeling there was more than just a disconnect between how she saw his team and how her colleagues did, Fox looked over at her. "What's really bugging you, Lucy?"
She glanced at him, no doubt prepared to try and deflect. She hesitated, seeing his expression. After a moment she sighed and relented. "They think I'm crazy."
He snorted, "They're only just now starting to think that?"
She flicked his ear in retaliation and he yelped.
"If it were because I was flying with you, I'd understand," Lucy muttered. "But because I'll drape over the back of Papa's chair and lean over his shoulder? Because I'll flick my little brother's ear when he's being a nuisance?" She shook her head.
"Because they're intimidated, they think you should be too," Fox realized.
Lucy nodded.
He tried to imagine that scenario. One where she looked at him warily when he passed her in the corridor. One where she'd all but freeze when Peppy spoke, asserting whatever protocol or protective measure.
He couldn't picture it. He just couldn't.
"They're idiots." His declaration hit the air unexpectedly. He hadn't meant to say that out loud!
The answering burst of laughter from Lucy erased any regret he might have had about the words.
