The ending of Go Nagai’s Devilman influenced this chapter of Naruto. 

Naruto has a happy alternative ending to the one in Devilman.  In Devilman, Akira (Devilman) and Ryo fight until the world is destroyed. They are side by side, looking up at the full moon through the clouds. Ryo wakes first and announces he won, but apologises to Akira, and cries . A wide panel reveals Akira is missing half of his body. Akira is dead and didn’t hear Ryo’s apology. Ryo got what he thought he wanted but is alone.  In Naruto, Naruto and Sasuke fight and destroy the surrounding area.  They are side by side, looking up at the full moon through the clouds. Naruto wakes first, followed by Sasuke. Sasuke says he lost, but seems happy about it. He expresses regret (and cries) They both make it through to the morning. A wide panel reveals they are both missing an arm but are otherwise OK.

The composition and layout of both scenes is very close, with two pages in particular being very similar Edit: This isn’t theory - Japanese fans have been acknowledging this since 2014
