Year in Review, fanbinding edition :)
I was making a wish list of fic to bind for the next couple months when I thought maybe itâd be neat to compile my fanbinding from 2022 :) it can double as a rec list, cause everything on here is brilliant.
Iâve linked the original bookbinding posts below.
As you wish/make a wish by @f-ing-ruthless-baz
This was a multi-volume project for one of my favourite snowbaz authors of all time. firb, Iâm obsessed with you <3
does the dog die at the end? by @stillmadaboutpetra
Madâs a genius. Everyone whoâs read mad knows what I mean. Lord, do yourself a favour and click on literally anything heâs written ever (although Iâm not sure youâll be able to stop reading once youâve started).
Nothing equals in splendour by @mostlymaudlin
Fondly known in my head as mostlymaudlinâs bake off-long fic đ
Take these lies by @pennygalleon
My first mini! Spoiler: there will be more to come. I was obsessive about this story over erised last year until reveals, at which point I became obsessive about Penny :)
Wildflower by @ninemagicks bound for @namistrella
Every sentence of this fic drips. Itâs potent. Itâs dense. Itâs almost too pretty to look at.
All the things we donât mean by @namistrella
Peak angst. It doesnât get better than this. Also, theyâre my fic soulmate.
Where does the pollen go? by @bazzybelle
Simultaneously soft and fuzzy, but also hot as fuck. The poor pillows!
A light from miles away/a light from within by @stillmadaboutpetra
Yeah. I told you. Once you start, itâs really hard to stop đ
Some bonus non-fandom related binding photos :))
Repeat after me: I am a damn good writer. No oneâs criticism of my work will deter or discourage me. I will never compare myself to others, as I am only in competition with myself. I can be as self indulgent and unrealistic as I want. I can be as realistic and thorough as I feel. There are no set rules to writing, only suggestions. Besides, if we all wrote the same, there would be no joy in reading.
The legacies people leave behind in you.
My handwriting is the same style as the teacherâs who I had when I was nine. Iâm now twenty one and heâs been dead eight years but my iâs still curve the same way as his.
I watched the last season of a TV show recently but I started it with my friend in high school. We havenât spoken in four years.
I make lentil soup through the recipe my gran gave me.
I curl my hair the way my best friend showed me.
I learned to love books because my father loved them first.
How terrifying, how excruciatingly painful to acknowledge this. That I am a jigsaw puzzle of everyone I have briefly known and loved. I carry them on with me even if I donât know it. How beautiful.
absolutely obsessed with these tags

'Carry On' recs!
since i have not set finger to keyboard to start anything new this weekend. but i have read some more things.
SFW
Second Impressions by @sillyunicorn, Complete, 7k
this fic is so fun and unusual in that simon is the one obsessed with baz, and baz is furious at simon and unable to forgive him (until he does) and they have to share space and photocopy things. they're both biology professors, and i also love the science stuff and any fic that could take simon seriously as a professor.
A Dangerous Affinity by @larkral, WIP, 31k, 7 of 25
this fic made me read all three books from the scholomance series - i read the first chapter and was like, 'i need to know what's from the books', and the answer is: lots, but also there's so much amazing stuff that larkral has added in from a worldbuilding and character POV. it's such a clever and involved fic, seriously unlike many other things - basically like reading a novel. and i can see people are loving it without reading the books too. the romance is really well done too - baz keeping simon at a distance even though he doesn't want to. some really classically poetic snowbaz lines. v good.
Game On, Babe by @martsonmars - Complete, 4k
not from october, but i didnt rec anything back in august and i really love this fic. i'm weak for anything where simon and baz are genuinely competing against each other (sneaky side recs for some fics i'll properly rec when they're finished, The Beautiful Game by @fatalfangirl and Your Time Starts Now by @onepintobean - both of which i loooove). this fic is about table-tennis and what constitutes and unfair advantage. i love it. they're established relationship but baz is so comfortable he's genuinely a bit of a twat again. also, it's here in this SFW section, but this is basically table football as sex. and it is very hot.
NSFW
Kinktober fics by whiskeyandcinnamon - all about 2k, not a series, all complete
not all of them are snowbaz, but lots are. big range of kinds of sex and kinds of snowbaz relationship. my tongue between your teeth is one of my favourites.
Baz's New (Not)Boyfriend by brandnewbeepbeep - WIP, 6k so far, 1 of 2 chapters
you have to be ok with baz sleeping with someone else, but that character never being on screen. love the kinkiness of this and the sort of classic early snowbaz smut vibes of simon wanting to see and baz wanting to show.
Touch Starved by @artsyunderstudy - Complete, 6k
a writer who excels at these very sensual, evocative, overwhelming sex scenes. i loved Here in the Dark and this is definitely that vibe, but more physical. very hot and also deals with simon's interest in being touched in a way we don't see so much since AWTWB, but very inflected by that book (i.e. he's really into it). v good.
thanks for tagging me people who are more productive than me! i look forward to reading your completed works! @martsonmars @confused-bi-queer @artsyunderstudy @cutestkilla @creepyspice @johnwgrey @moodandmist @whogaveyoupermission @nightimedreamersworld @larkral @ileadacharmedlife @ionlydrinkhotwater
Iâve never done my own fic rec post before but Iâm feeling inspired seeing more and more people do this. Also, Iâm so slow and usually weeks behind what everyone else is reading but Iâve read some new stuff recently so letâs go!
We Still Bloom Complete, 18k, Rated T by @artsyunderstudy
I am a sucker for Hanahaki fics (the angst! The pain! The perceived unrequited love! The ticking clock!) and this one does not disappoint. Set within those awful doubting weeks of WS/AWTWB and sprinkled with plenty of past memories and present action, this author really lets you sit with that sorrow and uncertainty. Plus FANTASTIC art! What more could you want?
The Beautiful Game WIP, currently 8k, Rated T by @fatalfangirl
This fic is composed of anecdotes of Simon and Baz playing football over the years but football is merely a lens to view the progression of their relationship. Itâs canon compliant and fits so seamlessly with the events surrounding it. The WS chapter, for example, packs a punch in a few hundred words. It will have you sobbing, squealing, sighing and laughing as the chapters take you through the best (and worst) of their relationship. But through it all they have football. Need I say more?
This Is Your Place, Complete, 19k, Rated M by @cutestkilla This fic was written for @carryonprompts fest (along with the two above!) and answered the question: how would things have differed if Baz came back to his room after the Open sesame incident to find Simon, tits out, bloody and without his cross? This author took the prompt in a a sexy but also tender and angsty direction. A lovely get together written by a very talented writer.
Speaking of, Iâm gonna jump back to @cutestkillaâs first fic because she just posted this great meta about what informed her version of the Humdrum from canon, which got me thinking about how Whatâs Left is still one of my favorite fics of all time so if you havenât read this fic about what if Simon really died in the White Chapel and the Humdrum (Sid, my beloved) was left, how might he and Baz take on the Mage? Itâs so creative, funny, sweet and heartfelt and (despite the way the premise sounds) will leave you fulfilled in a way you never knew you needed to be.
Ready or Not WIP, currently 5k, Rated E by @bookish-bogwitch
Another Carry On Prompts Fest fic that I am OBSESSED with. Itâs a Watford era magickal mishap (my fave, it should be a proper tag!) in which Simon accidentally spells Baz to spontaneously orgasm without warning several times a day. This story is both hilarious and so sexy and the end of chapter 1 leaves us with a delightful twist. I canât wait to see what happens next!
Stress Management WIP currently 22k, rated M by @whogaveyoupermission
Normal AU, later in life get together in which social worker!Simon tried to manage his stress by attending a barre class taught by none other than his former classmate Baz. This fic is so sweet and sexy you will be screeching for them to get together by the end of the first chapter. And yet this author is building their mutual pining so, so well. Bonus content includes Baz in all sorts of sexy barre instructor outfits that you wonât want to miss!
Phew! If your like me, and have a to be read list a mile long and you donât know what to start with, do yourself a favor and check out any of these gems that sound interesting. I promise, they will not disappoint! Thank you for the tags today @martsonmars @aroace-genderfluid-sheep @cutestkilla @facewithoutheart @fatalfangirl @larkral @bookish-bogwitch @nightimedreamersworld @whogaveyoupermission @johnwgrey @confused-bi-queer @artsyunderstudy @palimpsessed @moodandmist @creepyspice @ivelovedhimthroughworse yâall are working on some fantastic stuff!
Tagging a few more people in case you want to spread the word on these awesome fics or share some words (or recs!) of your own @whatevertheweather @captain-aralias @takitalks @toonysart @messofthejess @ionlydrinkhotwater @aristocratic-otter @prettylightsbigcity @castawaypitch @yeonjunenby @erzbethluna @hushed-chorus @stardustasincocaine @frjsti @toonysart @forabeatofadrum @raenestee @yellobb @bazzybelle @gekkoinapeartree @ic3-que3n @tea-brigade
Also, if youâve read this far and want to check out chapter 5 of Depth of Reason, itâs out now, with more lovely art by @toonysart

When a character is assured enough in their own power that they are completely relaxed in dangerous situations??? When that same character becomes tense and uncomfortable in the mundane because they don't have a framework for peace?????? When they help navigate violence for another character and in return that character helps them navigate softness??????????? That's all, your honour
Eight Tips for Writing in Third-Person Point of View
I have always gravitates towards first POV, but I am currently writing a story and want to challenge myself and write it in third POV.
So here are some writing tips for third person point of view.
What Is Third-Person Point of View?
In the third-person point of view, a narrator tells the reader the story, referring to the characters by name or by the third-person pronouns he, she, or they. There are three different types of third-person narration, each with a different scope of viewâthird-person objective, third-person limited, and third-person omniscient
The 3 Types of Third-Person Point of View
Third-person omniscient point of view: The omniscient narrator knows everything about the story and its characters. This narrator can enter any character's mind, move freely through time, and give the reader their own opinions and observations as well as those of the characters. For example, Jane Austenâs Pride and Prejudice is told from a third-person omniscient point of view, giving the reader full access to the main character, Elizabeth, as well as the characters around her.
Third-person limited point of view: The third-person limited point of view (often called a âclose thirdâ) is when an author sticks closely to a single character but remains in third-person. The narrator can do this for the entire novel or switch between different characters for different chapters or sections. This point of view allows the author to limit a readerâs perspective and control what information the reader knows. It is used to build interest and heighten suspense.
Third-person objective point of view: Third-person objective point of view has a neutral narrator that is not privy to any characterâs thoughts or feelings. The narrator presents the story with an observational tone. Ernest Hemingway employs this third-person narrative voice in his short story âHills Like White Elephants.â An unknown narrator relays the dialogue between a couple as they wait for a train in Spain. This point of view puts the reader in the position of a voyeur, eavesdropping on a scene or story.
8 Tips for Writing in Third-Person Point of View
Choose the best type of third-person POV for your story. Before you begin fleshing out your plot, think of which third-person perspective will work best for your storyâobjective, omniscient, or limited. Each has its advantages in telling a story. Do you want your reader to be in suspense and only know what the protagonist knows? Then write your story in third-person limited. If youâre writing an epic saga with a lot of important characters, consider third-person omniscient, which allows your narrator to be all-knowing.
If youâre writing an epic saga with many important characters, consider third-person omniscient, which allows your narrator to be all-knowing.
Use third-person pronouns. Make sure to be consistent in your use of third-person pronouns such as âhe,â âshe,â âit,â or âtheyâ when not referring to characters by name.
Switch viewpoint characters strategically. Omniscience is sometimes described as having a godlike perspective because it is an all-knowing POV, and the writer can dip in and out of different charactersâ minds. Different points of view throughout a story can create a rich narrative by giving readers a more expansive view of the plot. But be sure to avoid head-hoppingâi.e., randomly jumping from character to character. When writing from an omniscient POV, move into a different characterâs head at a transitional time, like a chapter break when another characterâs perspective will be advantageous to the plot.
Choose your viewpoint character carefully. In omniscient POV, when choosing which character will serve as your main point of view for any chapter or scene, hone in on the person who has the most to lose or learn. Whichever character is facing the highest stakes? Who has the most to lose in a particular scene? That character will be the one to follow closely because their thoughts and reactions will carry the most tension.
Avoid slipping into first-person POV. As youâre writing, itâs easy to confuse yourself with the narrator and occasionally slip into your own perspective. Stay in your narrator characterâs voice. Avoid using first person pronounsââI,â âme,â âmy,â âmine,â âmyself,â âwe,â âus,â âour,â or âours.â When youâve finished writing and are self-editing your first draft, check for POV consistency.
In third-person limited, remember that the narrator only knows what the character knows. If youâre writing in a limited third-person POV, remember that your narrator only knows what your protagonist knows. Be aware of your charactersâ limitations. Review your writing frequently to ensure that you havenât given your characters information they shouldnât have.
In the third-person objective, stay out of everyoneâs heads. If you choose to have the narrator be a complete outsider and write in an objective POV, remember that your narrator doesnât know what your characters are thinking. You are an outside observer and can only relay to the reader what you observe. Use descriptive writing to convey emotions. Describe a characterâs eyes and expressions to reveal character development, tension, and plot-building.
Write with authority. Create an authoritative, trustworthy narrator. Writing from the third-person stations the narrator above the action, creating a birdâs eye view of the story. This angle, along with the ability of the narrator to know at least one characterâs thoughtsâin both omniscient and limited third personâgives the narrative a more authoritative, reliable voice since the narrator has nothing at stake.
There you have it folks, together we shall all write in third person!
