The whole thing with Corlys still makes me angry. Not because of how he reacted and what he said. Whatever, I'm not really a fan of Corlys. I was pissed that the writers didn't allow Rhaenyra to respond. All she could do was look at him, horrified and ashamed.
But there's another thing that pisses me off with the way this storyline was handled, and that's Rhaenys. Corlys fucking cheated on her. It wasn't one time. It wasn't a drunk mistake after an argument (not that this would have excused cheating). He had a whole affair with another woman (the girl was 44 years younger than him) and sired two sons on her.
Yet, Rhaenys forgave him. She was gracious and full of understanding. Because that's how a proud woman like Rhaenys would react, right? And I don't know what world hotd writers live in to come up with this.
In the book, Corlys was a coward who was too afraid to acknowledge his sons when his wife was still alive. But sure, let's pretend that Rhaenys, even Rhaenys in the show who was the shell of her book counterpart, would be fine with him siring two bastards on a girl young enough to be his granddaughter.

The way Corlys' infidelity was handled is another example of the writers whitewashing men's crimes, sins and bad behaviour while women get shamed for the same actions. And they don't do it in a way that highlights the double standards.
