So it’s not quite snowing on Churyumov–Gerasimenko, unfortunately; the white specks are artifacts of cosmic rays impinging on the CCDs in the camera, as well as a rotating starfield in the background (since the comet is spinning). A few specks could be dust. But, holy shit, that’s the surface of a comet. That’s a spot you could in theory cling to for dear life sit down on. The Cliffs of Comet 76p are a place. 

If that isn’t the neatest shit I don’t know what is.

Princess Versus Princess

I know I'm biased, but I'd rather this episode had ended differently.

My opinion isn't helped by the fact that the writers couldn't be bothered to at least show Misty winning convincingly. It only happened because Psyduck suddenly developed immunity to paralysis.

Why? Is he too dense to react?

Also, it's easy to be more sympathetic to one back story over the other.

Misty's saying she only had cast-offs, but all I'm hearing is:

You've got THREE sets! Can't you make one decent collection out of all of them?

You've got a home! You've got your sisters! You're a Gym Leader!

What did Jessie have but snow?

I bet Little Jess would've loved a hand-me-down Doll!

What message does it send to Jessie?

Don't try to do the right thing because you're no better off.

I think what really exasperates me is the sheer malice Misty shows over this victory.

Her sole motivation is to upset her sisters by bragging about having her own set of Dolls. It's just difficult to see it as a happy ending when her vindictive glee is obvious.

I don't think the girls would care either way. They're so laid back they aren't even bothered if the family business loses all prestige via them handing out Cascade Badges willy-nilly, so what does this matter?

Her Dolls don't even look the same as the ones they had.

Besides, if she sends them home, she won't have any contact with the set until the close of Johto, by which time any sense of triumph will have faded.

Am I not meant to mind? Am I meant to be glad it resolved this way?

What, because she's the 'evil' girl, she can never be happy, even when she chose to fight fairly?

The answer is to make her more unhappy, thus more willing to be evil, since fair play got her nowhere, so might as well cheat?

Is all this to punish her, or she must suffer to gain our support?

If you’re European, in a couple of weeks you will be denied any and all access to fandom contents on Tumblr and everywhere else on the internet. Here’s why.

On June, 20th the JURI of European Parliament approved of the articles 11 and 13 of the new Copyright Law. These articles are also known as the “Link Tax” and the “Censorship Machines” articles.

Articles 13 in particular forces every internet platform to filter all the contents we upload online, ending once and for all the fandom culture. Which means you won’t be able to upload any type of fandom works like fan arts, fan fictions, gif sets from your favourite films and series, edits, because it’s all copyrighted material. And you won’t also be able to share, enjoy or download other’s contents, because the use of links will be completely restricted.

But not everything’s lost yet. There’s another round of voting scheduled for the early days of July.

What you can do now to save our internet, is to share these informations with all of your family members and friends, and to ask to your MEP (the members of the European Parliament from your country) to vote NO at the next round, to vote against articles 11 and 13.

How to Write Deaf Characters - From a real Deaf person’s perspective

Hello readers and writers alike, I would like to point out something that has been so glaringly annoying to me and other Deaf/HoH people so that we can end all these misconceptions. People who write for Deaf!Readers should know a few things before starting their imagines, fanfictions, blurbs - anything. It is not anyone’s fault for not knowing these things, most hearing people are not aware of the Deaf community or Deaf culture so here I am, a Deaf person who is majoring in Deaf Studies and Culture, coming here to tell you a few things to know when writing for a Deaf!Reader

(Remember this is my experience as a Deaf/HoH person and it may differ from person to person but this is what I learned/have slight annoyances within writing)

Deaf and Hard of Hearing is a culture. Yes, most people consider it a disability but IT IS NOT SOMETHING WE ARE ASHAMED OF! Please stop writing fics/imagines about Deaf!Reader being ashamed of not being able to hear or getting hearing aids to impress their SO. It’s completely wrong and just annoying. We are proud of our Deafness and we don’t want to be fixed.

DO NOT USE THE TERM ‘HEARING IMPAIRED’! This is basically a slur word. It was widely used in the ’90s but now it’s considered a derogatory term. Just use Deaf or Hard of Hearing. Or ‘deaf’ if the person is medically deaf and not culturally Deaf. (see next point)

Deaf and ‘deaf’ are different. Deaf is a cultural term for people who are born Deaf and raised in the community. The term ‘deaf’ is used in the medical field or used to describe someone who has hearing loss that does not associate with the Deaf Community. Usually, a hearing person who has become deaf later on.

Sign language is not a worldwide language. There are different types of language within sign language. ASL is for American and Canada. BSL is for Britain. So if you’re writing a story that takes place in a country that is not America or Canada, do not say ASL.

ASL does not = English. Same for every other language. ASL is its own language with grammar rules and semantics. It does not directly translate to English. So if you’re writing ASL most likely write in GLOSS or write it as you would write a hearing character. (Sentance: I want to go to the mall and buy a dress. GLOSS: I WANT WANT GO TO MALL I. ME BUY DRESS ME )

Deafness is on a spectrum. There is a legal threshold that someone must pass to be considered legally Deaf. Some Deaf people can hear more than others. I can hear high pitched noises sometimes. I know someone who can hear voices but can not hear what they are saying. Both of us are Deaf and we both cross that threshold. So when writing your Deaf!Character make sure to set a bar of what they can and can not hear.

Hearing Aids do not cure anyone’s deafness. It only helps hear some sounds and maybe hear if people are talking. Not what they are saying although it can help with that depending on how far they are on the Deaf scale.

Cochlear Implants are very controversial in the Deaf Community so if you’re going to write about them do your research!!! They are also not a cure for Deafness, just an aid.

Deaf people are not masters at lipreading! Even the best lip readers can only make sense of 30% of what is being said. I’ve been lip reading for years and I still only understand a little bit of what is being said. So no, your character is not going to miraculously know what’s going on from lip reading.

DO NOT have your characters yell at your Deaf characters. DOES NOT MATTER HOW LOUD YOU ARE! We can not hear you. Neither can your character. Have your other hearing characters speak normally. That’s the best way to lip read if they must.

Most Deaf people are born from hearing parents. It’s really rare for a whole entire family to be Deaf (Although I’ve met some and it’s super cool). But your character is probably born to hearing parents.

ALSO, the majority of hearing families with Deaf children do NOT learn ASL. It sucks but it’s true. Only about 30-40% of families learn sign for their Deaf family members. So keep it in mind,

So this is my list for now! I may add to it the more I think about things but this is basics I think everyone should know. If I forgot some then feel free to add! A fire broke out at the revered Al-Aqsa Mosque compound's Marwani Prayer Room in Jerusalem just as flames ravaged the Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris.

Al-Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem, built 1035 C.E (the first recorded holy building on the site built in 705 C.E) has also been a victim of fire today as the Notre Dame in Paris burns.

It’s important to note that the Al-Aqsa Mosque is the third holiest site in Islam, so I beg you to keep Muslims, especially Palestinian Muslims in Jerusalem, in your prayers (and if you’re not religious, keep Muslims in your thoughts).

I think my most favourite/least favourite thing about One Piece is how subtly creepy Luffy is from the outside perspective. Like, other Warlords? Straight up terrifying. They're true monsters, but they're monsters you can see coming. Luffy just appears, fights, vanishes. You can't bribe him, you can't scare him, you can't threaten him without consequences, and he will do whatever the hell it is that he wants to do wherever he wants to do it.

When people hear that the terrifying Strawhat crew is in town they jump at the sight of any remotely big and scarly looking dudes, then they accitentially bump into a kid in jorts who then later proceeds to top their government wearing sandals, eats all their food and fucks off like a cryptid. Honeslty Luffy could be some kind of boogieman people scare their kids with bc he looks innocent and would follow him in a heartbeat but all around him is just C H A OS.

I think the best example of that is the ep when he goes back to marineford post-war, bc this is the first time we see him from a real outsider perspective and that’s why it looks terrifyingly insane even by Loof standards. 

We are just like the Marines and everyone else, totally clueless, then this batshit crazy Strawhat rubber kid just strolls into Marineford AGAIN, like a week after the war and Ace’s death, with fucking Rayleigh and Jinbei at his side. And then he just ignores everyone and rings that bell a wierd number of times??? Places a few flowers?? And then he promptly fucks off again?

No wonder everyone worth their salt is scared shitless of him
