the mysterious case of the missing e

Millions of years back, there used to be a beautiful group of friends (tony, umar, maison, bella, lucas, elizabeth, and roni), they all lived happily, and one day.. they decided to make a website with the first letters of their name: tumbler.

Their plan was going.. very good. they designed the website, did some important settings.. all what was left, was the logo font and name. this was when disaster began.

Elizabeth’s ego washed over her and she had more ego than kanye does today. she wanted the website to herself, and she wanted to name it “e.”. of course the others didn’t agree and the once beautiful peaceful group of friends got into a huge fight, breaking them apart. since that day, elizabeth disappeared and decided to build another website, hoping it will overcome her ex-friends website.

Nobody knows what happened to elizabeth, but the other group of friends ended in naming the website ‘tumblr’.

So we all know that tumblr used to have an e in its name. Oh you didn’t know.. well now you do, and before you think it was spelled “tumbler”, no it wasn’t okay? It was written as “tumblre”. Now to the important stuff, there are many legends on why the “e” was removed but the one I believe says that tumblr has always been in a fight with other social media platforms. It tried to be the best at everything and show off that it’s unique and different. One day it got into this big fight with twitter. Tumblr users were attaking twitter users and it was the biggest war that social media has ever known. Each of the two communities was trying to show off why it’s the best and why it should get all the attention and glory. The fight was so heated up but twitter did something no one expected. People who work in twitter were like :“Oh our users love our app so much that even if we limited the characters they can write to 140 THEY WILL STILL USE IT!”

Tumblr was so shocked. How can it beat that. It was all too much, until a bright yet risk full idea popped into the founder’s head. The tumblr team decided to take the leap and ommit one of the vowels. Now they couldn’t take the “u” out because it will be unreadable, so they decided to take the “e” and by that, they’ve won the fight and put an end to this bloody war and gone against every spelling rule that’s out there.

And that is how tumblr became e-less.
