Once when I was in undergrad, someone described something as “problematic” in class and our professor was like, “That’s cool, but ‘problematic’ doesn’t really mean anything. It means that the thing you’re describing has a problem, and in and of itself that’s not bad. Art, especially, should always have problems, or else it’s not interesting and not art, either. It sounds like you’re trying to say that this is bad, but you don’t want to say ‘bad.’ Is that right?”
So from then on whenever one of us called something problematic, he would make us talk it out until we could name the “bad” thing we were hinting at. In this particular class, 7/10 it was some type of oppression, and the remainder was like, “I’m uncomfortable because this is very new/confusing/pushing boundaries that made me feel safe.”
Once we stopped calling things “problematic” and stopping at that, class got way more interesting and... we all had to say, like, “that’s racist” or “that’s misogynistic” or “ew capitalism gross” out loud, which a lot of us had never done in a classroom before. Or we had to be like, “Uhhh... I’m not sure what’s so bad?” and confront our own beliefs and that was maybe even more useful.
Anyway. Whenever I see the word problematic, I can’t help but think of this professor being like, “Good starting point, now let’s get specific.” I think when we have to commit to saying “that’s ___” it requires a lot more careful thought about the truth and impact and complexities of whatever we’re claiming. Sometimes there really is some bullshit afoot, and also sometimes it’s art, and it should be full of problems, because that’s what art is.
Curious what is actually normal for bed time. Go for your normal/average time, not your most extreme or what you wish it was.
what time do you go to bed? (local time)
7pm or before
8pm
9pm
10pm
11pm
12am
1am
2am or after
it's never consistent
some other time entirely
I just don't know what grownups do for bedtime and I want to know!!!
I feel bad being an asshole to sales people when they call, especially if it's renewing my phone plan or something that I do need to do. But gods when they so obviously try to raise the price of my plan when I know there are cheaper options. Or try to trick me into choosing the higher costing plan by using lingo that can make you easily slip up and agree to the more expensive one. (Literally something that happened just now.) Also It's even more frustrating when I've already indicated that I am financially not able to agree to anything costly. (Tried to sell me a new router because I "need" it. Which yes true, mine is way too old to be comfortably secure and it's straining under the modern network. But I literally cannot afford a new one right now. Which I made very clear to the sales person.)
HRA(?)
(Image from the Zoe de Vera character page on the remedy website)
So these things absolutely aren't like the HRAs we know.
It says "A-R INJECTOR M1" (Active-Resonance?) above the FBC logo, and though tumblr compression makes it unreadable, the grey pouch held in place by the rubber band says "Sterile" before the next word is redacted.
Following the wire, there's also two types of tape on Zoe's neck, the grey duct tape and a square of clear tape, like the kind used to secure a canula to an injection site. I had previously though that the wire was for an earpiece, but if it's to an injection site, no wonder they've taped it down so it can't catch on anything, or else they risk ripping it directly out of their carotid artery.
Have they invented an new serum or medication of some kind that prevents or holds off Hiss infection? With Jesse gone, the usual HRA models can't rely on Polaris to power them. Or is this a new device for a new threat?
How are they manufacturing the pouches of injectable material, and what are they making it out of?
How the fuck are we feeling chat!!!
can we talk about emily's earringsss
