Areā¦these are edits, right? I want to say these are edits, but Iāve learned enough about Ace Attorney to know not to underestimate its weirdnessā¦
"You canāt stand up. But you donāt want to kneel down. Then you can only lie down flat."
Absolute baller move by Chinese millenials
āA new viral term promoting slow living has taken Chinaās cyberspace by storm, and authorities are moving quickly to stamp it out.
Tangping (čŗŗå¹³), or ālying down flatā is a counter-culture philosophy championing minimalism and anti-consumerism.
The ālying down flatistā believes that people are more than mere extensions of capital. The ālying down flatistā is in open rebellion against the hard-working, credit-hungry, striving existence promoted from the top down in China.
The idea originated from a short post, āLying down flat signifies justiceā, published on a mainland Chinese forum, Baidu Tieba, in April.ā
Given that China(the govāt)ās Imperialism (and its relationship to US/EU Imperialism & Finance) is literally a huge driving factor in Capitalism and literally destroying many countries in Africa and other continents, lying down is, indeed, literally justice.
āI havenāt been working for two years, I have just been hanging around and I donāt find it a problem. Pressure mainly comes from comparisons with your own peers and the conventional values of the older generation. These pressures keep popping upā¦Messages about āfertilityā are pressed upon you by an āinvisible organismā. But, we donāt have to abide by these (norms). I can live like Diogenes and sleep inside a wooden bucket, enjoying sunshine. I can live like Heraclitus in a cave, thinking about the ālogosā. Since this piece of land had never had a school of thought that upholds human subjectivity, I can develop one on my own. Lying down flat is my philosophical movement. Only through lying down flat can humans stand at the center of the universe.ā
Godspeed to ppl everywhere opting out of being used as tools of destruction by greedy assholes
i hope people read this and realize that chinese people arent just the helpless drones that western propaganda have made them out to be. unlike what people who so staunchly think that chinese people are just sheep who obey out of fear believe, chinese people are indeed politically aware and participate in activism by protesting against their capitalist government (emphasis on the capitalist, just in case anyoneās understanding of china is still stuck in the cold war era)
once again, the people all over the world have more in common with each other than they do to their governments. realizing this is an important step in building global solidarity in the fight against imperialism and capitalism. continuing to operate under the idea that asians are somehow less capable of critical thinking and political awareness will only undermine these efforts
OK - a very tangential takeoff: Engineering prof assigns students this question: Explain how to determine the height of a very tall building using a barometer.
Obviously meant to use change in barometric pressure with altitude. But one student submitted the following:
There are several ways of doing this
1. On a sunny day, stand the barometer up in the sun, measure the length of its shadow relative to its height, then measure the length of the buildingās shadow and calculate its height from that.
2. Go into the stairwell and climb the stairs to the top, marking off the length of the barometer on the wall, giving you the height of the building inĀ ābarometer unitsā.
3. Go onto the roof of the building and drop the barometer off the top and time how long it takes to hit the ground, then calculate the height using the well known formula of 32 ft./sec./sec.
4. Go into the office of the building superintendent and sayĀ āIf you tell me how tall this building is, I will give you this nice barometerā.
āDisgust relies on moral obtuseness. It is possible to view another human being as a slimy slug or a piece of revolting trash only if one has never made a serious good-faith attempt to see the world through that personās eyes or to experience that personās feelings. Disgust imputes to the other a subhuman nature. How, by contrast, do we ever become able to see one another as human? Only through the exercise of imagination.ā
