To the people who are comparing Jax (tadc) to Vriska (homestuck) and can like both characters as complex messy women, I fuck with you, you're awesome.
To the people who compare them and say shit like "Vriska isn't nearly as bad as Jax" you are a fucking moron, probably lying about actually liking Vriska's character, and possibly transphobic to boot. I saw someone try to say and I quote "not a single troll would be as terrible as Jax" and I had to take the biggest fucking double take of my life. I live the trolls, and I live Vriska as a character, but those fuckers were literally killing people. Trolls made a whole larping game for killing eachother.
Again, I love Vriska, but I love her because she is complex and messy as a character and to pretend she never did anything wrong in her life is ERASURE and I will NOT stand by it. Vriska paralyzed Tavros and then made fun of him for it daily. Then when Aradia got revenge because she hurt a friend, she killed Aradia. Not only did she kill her, she used her boyfriend to kill her just to sting a little more. Then Terezi was (I'd say rightfully) pissed about that because she killed a friend, and so she hurt Vriska back and Vriska blinded her in return. Yes I know Terezi likes being blind, but that was not Vriska's intention and she actually hated how little it affected Terezi, liking it was Terezi's revenge. Then later down the line, she killed Tavros too, and by that point it had been established that she supposedly loved him, and she regretted it after, but it's wild to think people are saying Jax bullying Gangle is worse than anything Vriska did to Tavros. In part it feels even more dumbed down by the lack of understanding of the relationships, one of my favorite parts of Homestuck is how complex and complicated all the relationships are, especially troll romance. Tavros might have been pitch for Vriska, but Vriska was FLUSH for Tavros, it's part of why Kanaya ended up so heartbroken over the whole thing because she was flush for Vriska and Vriska didn't really seem to care about her.
Anyway, my point in bringing up the specifics of Tavros and Vriska's dynamic is that It's not the dynamic of Jax and Gangle. If Jax is comparable to Vriska it makes Tavros more like Pomni or Ribbit in your shitty metaphor if you want to try to argue that abstraction is death. Even then Jax didn't directly kill Ribbit, it was probably closer to causing her suicide, Vriska quite literally stabbed Tavros, after having previously paralyzed him and mocked him for the injury she caused. On top of all that, she had a hand in creating the unkillable beast that destroyed the trolls session.
These are just the things she did to her FRIENDS, people she supposedly cared about, because I'm not counting all the strangers she murdered to feed her mother cause that wasn't optional. I'm not calling any of the other trolls I've mentioned perfect either, they're all flawed characters from a horribly violent and flawed world, that's what makes them such interesting and dynamic and compelling characters. And I live them for that, and I love Vriska for it, and I love how much of a bitch she is and how cool it is whenever the trolls are fighting and how interesting all the relationships between them are because of how violently flawed troll society is. But you can't argue that Jax is worse that all that. I would argue Jax didn't murder anyone, I might give you Ribbit if you really pushed me, but if Jax caused her "death" it definitely wasn't purposeful or planned. Also you don't get to count Jax's mother because Vriska killed her lusus too.
Seeing people argue that Jax is worse proves so many people are lying about liking homestuck or it's characters, if you think Vriska is a better person than Jax it's because you never learned a damn thing about her, you just saw a cool alien girl with pretty fairy wings and went "she's so me!" And didn't dare to read any of the complex parts of her story or dialogs. It's frankly insulting to dumb down Vriska's character enough to say Jax is worse. I say this is a homestuck fan who actually gives a shit about her character.
But then it feels like people aren't considering Vriska's character when they make this argument. Instead it often feels more like people are looking for another way to insult Jax and hate Jax for the same complexity that made Vriska so cool. While I'm sure there are some people who have hated Jax from the beginning and never wanted to acknowledge that a mean person can be more complicated than "u r pure evil scum" I'm also fairly certain a majority of the people making this argument are just transphobic and trying to hate Jax without being called out on that fact. So they try to compare her to another girl who was a bitch and treated the people around her badly, and did terrible things and was complicated, and they call Vriska better (butchering both these girls complex character in the process) because Jax is Trans. Because that's what stupid bigots do, they compare Trans people to what they consider "real women/men" and judge them extremely harshly for things a cis person could get away with no questions asked.
Tldr for this long ass rant post, if you think Jax is worse than Vriska you either don't give a shit about Vriska as a character or you judge Jax more harshly for being Trans, or both. Either way you are objectively, factually wrong. All in all you are both media illiterate and flat out illiterate because you didn't read homestuck you just looked at the pretty pictures. Either way, learn to shut your stupid fucking mouth.
To those of you who do give a shit about both these characters and can see the parallels without being a huge dick about it or dismissing one's actions entirely to hold them over another, you deserve the world. I hope your pillow is always cool, your feet are never sore, and you win a million dollars every day forever.
