I chose my friend Courtnee as my inspiration for the Pop Art assignment. She is one of the most down to earth and confident people I know. She always radiates positive energy, she is never afraid to be herself, and she is absolutely beautiful.
1. What is your advice on staying confident for the next generation who sees ridiculous beauty standards on social media?
“My advice to the next generation would be to be unapologetically yourself. there is no one like you in the world, that’s how special you are. So, be proud of who you are as an individual. Show the world what it means to be you.”
2. How is rebelling against beauty standards a part of your life?
“Rebelling against beauty standards is a part of my life because I am a part of the generation that sees models on social media every single day. I see what they eat in a day, or what their workout routines consist of. I am also a part of the generation that is rebelling against beauty standards and showing young woman that every single body type and imperfection is beautiful.”
3. Who is inspiring you these days to love yourself and break free from societal boxes that you may have grown up with or still experience today?
“My mom and my aunt inspire me to love myself and break free from societal boxes. They are the ones that taught me the importance of loving yourself. They have always told me “when you know your worth, no one can make you feel worthless”. I try to live by this everyday and dance to the beat of my own drum because we only get one life, so, let’s live it loving ourselves unapologetically.”
