Spending regeneration energy isn't something that should kill you, because regeneration is something that happens after you die. Nuwho making it something that happens in spite of death rather than something that happens after death did irreparable damage to the show, case in point 15, if anything what 15 did should've affected future incarnations not him.
The lore regarding regeneration during Classic Who was always rather inconsistent because for a long time no one had a clear idea of what the process even was or how exactly it worked. First time it happened it was described as something the TARDIS could do, but majority of the time it was always portrayed as something that happens near death, not after. The only time the Doctor has ever died and then regenerated was Seven to Eight, and that was described as an anomaly caused by anesthetic. Two's forced regeneration even sets the precedent that fatal injury is not required to trigger a regeneration. Five's also establishes that it can be held off as we see signs he's starting to regenerate in part 3 of 'The Caves of Androzani' and fighting it.
That's fair, but all of these still felt like death to me, what really irks me about nuwho is that they somehow manage to make every regen a feel like a forced regen, like you're dying but going on goodbye tours and giving goodbye speeches lol makes regeneration come across as something forced on them rather than the last resort to stay alive, which Classic Who always presented it as.
How wild must it have been for Classic Who fans, seeing the 2005 revival and being confronted by the Ninth Doctor explaining that he'd nuked his entire race and the daleks to end a great war, the Time War, and knowing that the last Doctor you saw was this motherfucker
I couldn't imagine being an only modern Doctor Who fan. That's like so boring. The heck you mean all you're looking forward to is a shitty Christmas special? DW is releasing new stuff all the time but ๐ oughhh no DaViD tEnNaNt ooghh. Brother in christ WE GOT MISSING EPISODES FROM THE 60s BACK, A SEQUEL TO LUNGBURROW???? AND GALLIFREY AUDIOS HAVE RETURNED!! But no. No no you're waiting for the RTDisaster to return because Billie Piper may or may not be the Doctor. Y'all would NOT survive another Wilderness Era.

If there was ever a dw monster you couldn't look directly at or you would die (think Bird Box) Donna is going to be the only survivor and not even know it.
Okay I've been thinking how exactly did Rose Noble stop existing in Conrad's wish world? He couldn't fathom trans people, that was the surface level explanation they gave and if you think about it he couldn't quite fathom gay or disabled people either but the Doctor and Shirley didn't cease to exist. The Doctor was stuck in heteronormative relationship, Shirley was homeless- do you- do you think Rose ceased to exist because [dead name] took her place? After all it was Conrad's world Donna and Shaun would've still had that child like the "happy little" nuclear family Conrad wanted to force on everyone.
If we had something like The Three Doctors or the more recent Day of the Doctor now all of them would be/could be played by David Tennant. 10, Metacrisis 10, and 14.
DOCTOR WHO | Let's Kill Hitler (6.08) Prequel
Amy leaves the Doctor a voicemail
I might be alone in this but Martha, Martha who walked the earth for a whole year when all hope was lost, Martha who took a oath to do no harm, Martha who moments before was still trying to help the injured when it was all going to hell, would never just be like let's blow up the world just because the daleks have it, it was such a character assassination.
"It's so fucking over... My life is ruined... " โ
Demoralizing, hopeless, no goals, gets you stuck in misery
"THIS IS ALL PART OF MY MASTER PLAN." โ
Confident, energizing, hopeful
Acknowledges the hardships but makes it epic
Eludes to something bigger even if you don't know what that is
You sound evil and super smart
The Master inside that tooth.

Doctor Who || Into the Dalek
This is so annoying. I was watching YouTube and this splashed over my page. Can we please stop shoving Rose and the 10th doctor in our faces? My gosh. You know this isnโt getting rose more fans. This is probably alienating people who even like her because itโs like this is a 60+ year show. Iโm aware that itโs the 20th anniversary which good for them, but this is constant. How come is it that Martha doesnโt get this attention? Hell Donna showed up in the 60th anniversary even though that annoyed me because it kinda undermined her entire story arc or at least it just showed the 10 was being a melodramatic drama queen. Which again annoyed me. But Martha is not getting any sort of shout out whatsoever itโs like sheโs invisible and it pisses me off. Still not beating the racist allegations here BBC.
in addition to subjects that other people have already covered thoroughly and much better than i ever could (the handling of race, the antiblackness of rtd's writing, the misogyny, the weirdly bioessentialist handling of gender, etc.) i just want to step in and say that rtd's treatment of adoption is also fucking vile. what do you mean that ruby spends an entire season searching for her "real" mom as if adopted parents aren't real parents. what do you mean that carla abandons ruby in three separate timelines. (i can't even make the "if i had a nickel" joke because it's happened three separate times.) why did rtd elevate the mythic biological white mother at the expense of a black woman and decades of her love and choices and agency. the timeless child arc was literally described by chibnall as him grappling with his own feelings of being adopted (which, as someone who is adopted myself, are complicated and messy, i'm aware). why did you take the found family show about the doctor's extended "fam" and adoption and choosing a family and then babytrap a woman who didn't want kids and then constantly denigrate the woman who decided to adopt a child, one of the most powerful choices that someone can make. what the actual fuck rusty
making the (black) adopted mother of ruby be "evil" in three alternate realities AND spending the entire of ruby's season about finding her "real" (white) biological mother russell why do you do this
I know other people (and hell, myself) have remarked upon how many signifiers of "The Doctor" were taken from Fifteen, but god. All the things he didn't get. Getting to wear the previous Doctor's clothing/full outfit (Thirteen's got wiped away in an instant, then he only got to wear HALF of Fourteen's), a lack of a proper regeneration episode (no fumbling/healing/half-memoried saving the world that really serves to transition/endear you to the new doctor/show that they can solve problems even when at their weakest/most hampered), no TARDIS of his own (Fourteen got the makeover, not Fifteen), no single identifying Doctor outfit of his own (and on that note, no wardrobe-choosing-scene transitioning him from the last Doctor to the current Doctor), no fighting the Daleks/Cybermen/Master, no companion-lite episode to balance out the doctor lite one...no Doctor needs *all* of these, I could have even gotten behind one or two of them (hell, other Doctors have gotten the same), but the fact that he got NONE of these? I don't want to say that it feels disrespectful, but it feels fucking disrespectful.
