Questions of Life?
It is less than thirty minutes to midnight. I am sitting in the School of Media and Journalism, listening to the Jonas Brothers, crying. I fell in love with the Jonas Brothers, when I was ten. So much has changed. Why did the Jonas make me cry? It reminded me of a simple time. A time where innocence and options existed. I am only in my early 20’s, however, all my decisions seem so permanent now. It seems like once a decision is made, that is it. In a little over three weeks, I will be making a dream a reality by graduating from my dream school. I went from having all the answers to the only having all the questions. Life is full of questions, but I thought I had answered all my questions. However, over the last four years I have learned the spice of life is questions. There will never be a stagnant moment in life.

Dear Maddie
I originally wrote this letter the first week of my senior year for a class. Honestly, I forgot about the letter until this week, my last week of college ever. This week was extremely exhausting, too. But I am appreciative of every moment at UNC.
“Dear Maddie Marshall,
It is six past midnight and you are extremely exhausted. The first week of your senior year was exhausting. You are tired, but that has already been said. You wanted to go to the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill since you were four years old. You were not sure what college was exactly, but you knew you were supposed to go and to UNC. At that time you wanted to be a nurse, but your dad told you wanted to be a doctor. However, in a decade you changed your mind. STEM has never been your thing. To be completely honest, getting into UNC is your biggest accomplishment to date. You are 21, therefore, you have so many years to accomplish your goals (once you figure them out). Somehow you will be Chief of Staff, First Lady and be the second coming of Oprah. Do not limit yourself to one goal or career. You have lived so much of life on the sidelines doing what you are supposed to do. Please have fun Maddie, you have worked so hard. Also, you are doing fine, honey. You are becoming a proper (if there is such a thing) and healthy adult. You are exercising, budgeting and eating healthier. However, remember Rome was not built in a day, growth takes time. This semester you have existed in a perpetual state of exhaustion, but now it is done. Please get some rest. Sleep for a day or two, you deserve it.
With Self- Love, Yourself ☺”
Conformity Is A Lie
I don’t need to conform to be accepted,
I don’t need to believe or do things the same way to understand the world and myself,
I don’t need to be told another way to go about something because my way is apart of how I was made and how I process internally,
I don’t need to conform to the false idea that I need to reach a certain status quo to be of significance in society or of value to others in my vicinity,
Conformity covers what others don’t want to see you grow into and only allows segments of what is currently acceptable to foster an individual desired by the collective outside of the self.
Conformity is only appealing because if you dumb down the best parts of yourself to please others, that you will receive more. That being different, being the unique outcast, will get you less. That you will never have any true power.
But being different does not dictate how powerful you are or if you are even worthy to posess it, because your inner strength lays within you, its bed is next to an infinite power box, and that power in that box comes from within you.
It is so easy to fall under the impression that if you are not the same, that you will never be successful or reach great heights. It is so easy to be discouraged and bruised by others hurtful words or actions ultimately with intent to keep you within a certain pasture like cattle or sheep.
But know that conformity is the killer of embracing and embodying your true being and the beautiful nature that already grows within.
