“Are you okay?” Nina asked, coming up towards the person as they’d been sitting there in the restaurant for quite a while now. “Can I get you anything?”
“Yeah, just tired.” Madeline gave her best smile. Looking down at the pram for a moment before back to Nina. “Some more coffee would be great.”

Dakota happily jumped out of the car and practically bounced up to the front door, gifts in her arms. She shot Lacey a look as her friend was chuckling at her. “Oh, shut up and help me carry something.” Dakota thrust some of the items into Lacey’s hands and moved to knock on the door, excited to see the new baby. Almost all her friends were practically on her wavelength now, it was awesome!
Lacey rolled her eyes playfully as she took the gifts from Dakota and waited for the door to open. “Shut up yourself, bitch.” She playfully tapped Dakota’s shin with her foot, laughing at the look it got her. “Sorry.” Reverting to high school was easy with the two of them sometimes. “Hey, you!” She grinned when the door opened.

Maddy could hear her friends outside, and she was grateful for them honestly. She loved them to bits and pieces just like she loved her son. Hearing the knock on the door, she went over and answered it. “Hey!” She smiled big. Honestly she loved seeing them. Clive had excused himself for the day this way he wouldn’t interrupt their time together. He was so different from Ryan and she was blessed to have him. @dakotaxpike

Clive looked down at the little baby in his arms. Colby Jacob Baker. His son. He couldn’t help but smile at the sleeping boy, despite the fact that he knew he should probably lay him down in the crib. Maddie had fallen asleep finally, and Clive wanted to do whatever he could to let her get some rest. She had done amazing during the delivery and with everything after and he had to admit, he couldn’t be happier with their life. Hearing the floor creak outside the nursery, he looked up, smiling softly when he saw her. “I thought you were asleep still.”
Maddie wasn’t sure when she had fallen asleep but she knew their son wasn’t in her arms anymore and Clive wasn’t next to her. That was when she allowed herself at least a couple hours of sleep. Honestly she needed it. But Clive was great, he really was. And she loved him and never wanted to lose him. Once she woke up, she made her way to the nursey and smiled over at them for a moment. “No, I just woke up. Thank you for that. Have you gotten any sleep?” It seemed like they took turns she was beyond thankful.

“Oh god, yes. I swear my son is totally trying to make sure I never sleep again.” She chuckled lightly, although he was asleep now.

Clive smiled as she finished her candy floss, taking another sip of his lemonade. He raised a brow at her comment about exploding before it furrowed. “How are you feeling about all of it?”
“Scared and..” Maddie stopped for a moment grabbing his arm. And the next thing she felt was wetness, she glanced down for a moment before back to her fiancé. “I think--I think my water just broke.”

“I swear if I eat anymore I’m going to explode.” Maddie said this, popping the last bit of candy floss into her mouth. “I feel like I could give birth any minute.” She joked lightly.

“Well, she was going through a difficult phase.” She chuckled. “Yeah? What’s new? I’m alright.” She paused briefly. “Hey, I don’t suppose you’ve seen Adam today?”
“What has been going on? Is Trevor still seeing her?” She questioned, grabbing a cookie to look at it for a moment. “I swear I could eat like ten of these right now. I don’t know how you did it.” She shook her head a little bit. “Can’t say that I have. Is there something going on there?”

Dakota smiled. “Okay, coming right up!” She said, turning so she could fix some up for her friend. “And I think I might, let me have a little look.”
“You are the best. Thank you! I feel like I’m going to explode.” She chuckled lightly. “How did you do this towards the end?”

“Just right now?” She chuckled lightly. “I’m good and you?”

“Well, in the case, I love seeing you at work. Though, I do worry that you’ll get tired of me.” Clive chuckled softly. He looked at her tea, trying not to worry that it meant she was feeling well. He knew that it was just part of the pregnancy but with everything that had happened with her first pregnancy, he couldn’t help but be worried. He smiled when she put her hands over his. “I think I showed you this morning.” He teased. “But you make me happier than I ever thought I could be.”
"Well if I haven't gotten tired of you yet I don't think that is possible." Madeline teased lightly with a smile on her lips. Of course she was being extra careful due to what happened. But this time was also different. Clive wasn't Ryan, and she didn't have as much stress and he didn't hurt her. Not like Ryan. She pushed those thoughts aside, and focused on him, smiling at him. “You did show me this morning.” Her smile turned into a grin now. “And you make happier than I ever thought possible. I never thought that I would have this.” She told him honestly.

“You need anything? I can make hot chocolate, a sandwich? I can run to the shop?” Dakota felt a bit like a helicopter parent but she was very protective of Maddie.
“Hot chocolate does sound good right now. Might help settle my stomach. Not unless you have something for that.” Maddie glanced over at her for a moment, smiling some.

Clive came back from the storage room, smiling at the sight of his pregnant fiancee behind the counter. “Have I told you lately how much I like working with you?” He chuckled, putting the box down that he’d been carrying and moving to stand behind her. He kissed her cheek, moving his hands down to her stomach, rubbing his hands over her small belly. “Or just how happy you make me?”
Maddie was making herself some tea, she thought that would help settle her stomach a little bit. Hearing him, she couldn’t help but smile. “Nope you haven’t at least not to today.” She chuckled lightly, before taking a drink of her tea. Smiling when he kissed her cheek. Honestly she felt lucky. Like she had found her happy ending finally. Once she felt his hands onto her belly, her own went over his. “You did tell me this morning how happy I make you but you can always tell me again.”
“Have you come to gloat about how amazing engaged life is?” Her smile was bright as she leaned forward to bring her hands onto Maddie’s shoulders. “And who am I kidding? I want to hear all about it.” They had been living together up until not long ago and yeah, she really missed her but at the same time she was so happy for her. After everything… she deserved this. “You wanna’ go grab food or something?”

“Completely and totally.” Her smiled matched her friend’s, placing her hand over hers. They both had survived a lot. Including Ryan. And now she felt like they were both getting their happy endings despite this town being Murderville. “And I plan on telling you everything but first besides being engaged. We are expecting.” There was a big smile on her face as she told Abi the news. “Yes, do I ever!”

Madeline Benson has always been a good friend to have. She’s loyal, witty, and good at giving advice. She’s another of the older girls Annie used to hang out with in the shopping centre or behind the bike sheds, and has always seemed to love her life. Her friends were her whole world, no question about it. She, Lacey, Abigail, and Dakota were considered cool, though not up there with the likes of Annie Pierce and her crew, but that stuff didn’t really matter to Maddie. She just liked having her mates to laugh and joke around with. She smoked, though not excessively, and spent most of her time at the shopping centre with her four best friends.
When Annie Pierce started hanging with them, she didn’t really mind at first, but as soon as Annie discovered her biggest secret things started to change between them. However, Maddie was always too nice to tell Annie to back off so she put up with it for a long time. It kind of caused a rift between her and her friends, probably because it felt like they could feel there was something being hidden and concealed from them. Annie tended to try and play them all off against each other and nobody seemed to have it in them to tell her to back off, which was frustrating. Of course, Annie’s body being discovered was a shock. Maddie had felt terrible when the girl had disappeared because it was such a horrible situation. When the police hadn’t found Annie at first, Maddie thought she’d perhaps been kidnapped. It was awful that she’d been buried in the woods this entire time. Just hit in the back of the head with a rock and left to rot. Still… this meant her secret was safe, right? It was a gruesome thought that she always felt guilty for but she was sure she wasn’t the only one who thought it.

After Annie disappeared and was found again, Maddie had a simple enough life, living alone in a little flat and working at Spice. She was fairly happy with the way things have turned out and feels like her life is finally getting back on track, and it felt like it was about time. She drifted from her friends a little but she reconnected with them again eventually. Seemed like the four of them just couldn’t stay apart, even when Abi disappeared with her boyfriend Ben and came back alone, and then skipped town again a while later. After that, Maddie started dating Abi’s ex boyfriend Ryan. Of course she had no idea that Ryan was the reason that Abi even left town, or that he was abusive. She soon found out though, and what followed was a horrible situation. She suffered through the abuse at his hands because she loved him, she really did, she wanted to believe in the good in him. Even after they visited his parents and they were awfulto her, ending up making her cry by asking for her parents and making a joke about them being dead… he was so nice. So good. So through the attacks, the self harm, and a suicide attempt… Maddie stayed.
Until she just.. couldn’t. He promised he would change when he found out she was pregnant… but Maddie tragically lost their baby and she went to London to stay with her uncle for a while. When she came back, they tried again, but nothing changed and eventually Maddie just couldn’t take it anymore. She left town for good, going once again to her uncle’s place, staying with him until she got back on her feet. She did her best to recover and start her life over, but nothing ever quite felt right again. Maddie wasn’t sure why she came back home. Maybe she wanted to face her demons. Maybe she wanted to punish herself. Regardless, her uncle came with her this time, and she felt a bit better. Stronger in some sense… but Maddie is more than a bit anxious and she just hopes she can find it in herself to cope and get on with life. Finally move on and find some happiness.
→ What’s Her Secret?
Maddie’s father used to be physically abusive when he got angry. It didn’t really start happening until her mother got into a terrible car accident and wound up in a coma. Annie found out about it and used to come round to the house and sleep over, under the pretence of helping. Madeline’s father wouldn’t do anything to her with a friend in the house, after all, but as time went on it became apparent that Annie was only there because she wanted to see something happen. She used to try and wind Maddie’s father up, testing the limit to see how far he was willing to let her go until he just snapped and perhaps even hit them both. Maybe Annie wanted him to hit her - she did love a drama, after all. Being the victim. Nothing worked, he would just wait until Annie was gone the next morning and Maddie would get the full brunt of his wrath. Just weeks before Annie disappeared, she walked into the house uninvited and came face to face with a terrible scene. Maddie was standing in the living room sobbing, blood running down her face from a bad cut on her head, her father standing in the middle of the room glaring at her. Annie had easily put it together and moved towards him, which had angered him. He screamed at Annie to get out but she refused, grabbing a gymnastics trophy from the mantelpiece and swinging it round. Hard. He’d fallen and Annie had hit him again, and again… until Maddie had pulled her back, screaming at her to stop. But it was too late. Madeline’s father was on the floor, blood pooling on the carpet. “He had to feel exactly the amount of pain he inflicted on you.” were Annie’s cold words. Then Annie called the police, saying it was the right thing to do, but that she would help her through it. Maddie should have protested when Annie lied to the police, saying she walked in on Maddie’s father attacking her and that Madeline had hit him in self defence but she didn’t… she didn’t want to get Annie in trouble by calling her out on the lie. And it all worked out, anyway, the police took pity on Maddie. After all, the blood on her face, her bruised eye, sold the story pretty well and Annie had put the trophy into her hand while she called the police. Since Maddie was a minor, the police put out a story about Mr Benson committing suicide, overcome with grief after switching his wife’s life support off just days before, and Annie got away with murder. Maddie swore she would never let any of this get out. Lying to the police was a serious thing, how could she have been so stupid?
