For my final project I chose to incorporate cubism, futurism, and fauvism.
Cubism is represented in part of my background. Two of the characteristics that represent cubism are the use of geometric shapes and repetition. I achieved these characteristics with black sharpie as part of my background. I chose different geometric shapes and drew multiple of each shape that I chose to achieve repetition.
Futurism is represented in the collage I created. I chose images that represented technology and futuristic designs. For example, I thought that the triangular cabin represented modern architecture. I also found a futuristic looking car, a modern light fixture, a microscope, and more images that represented more modern or futuristic ideas. Another characteristic of futurism that I incorporated into my piece is typography. The futurism era is credited with advancing graphic design by creatively placing words and letters. The phrase "the future is here" in my piece represents this aspect of futurism.
Fauvism is represented in the background of my piece. One characteristic of fauvism is bold brushwork. I used many colors of watercolor pencils and a large, flat brush to create my background. Normally, I prefer to keep my brush strokes in the same direction, and I create a more cohesive color scheme when I create art. For this piece, I tried to let go of my perfectionism, and I had fun creating a more abstract background.
