"Mr. Hughes and my dad go way back, I believe," Thari said, trying not to be flustered by the way she held onto him. His heart was pounding fiercely again. The moustache man bowed his head and guffawed rather unattractively. "Maybe a good ten years, but who’s counting? Yes yes, my company is the biggest provider of plastic to Thelor Corp factories. You never know just how important plastic is in the third world countries," he gloated. Thari laughed along with him, but secretly at him for looking like one of those plastic mannequins in It’s a Small World. "And this is my wife, Sasha."
" Believe it or not, I married him for love. Everyone here is convinced otherwise since I came from a less fortunate background, but Georgie and I fell madly in love and are now inseparable," the woman clung to his arm like a leach and gave out the most ridiculous laugh ever. Yeah, love as long as his bank account still flowed with money. Thari cringed internally at the sight. He feigned a look around and smiled apologetically, "I’m so glad to meet you both, but sadly, we have to go check up on certain things. My mother has me in charge of somethings for the event," he nodded towards them and as quickly and subtly as he could, he led Ellie away from them.
It didn’t get passed him that Old Fart Hughes was checking Ellie out. Maybe that was why she was holding onto him like that. Or maybe it had to do with the way Slutty Sasha was giving her the stink eye. Whatever the case was, he didn’t want to make Ellie more uncomfortable than she needed to be. The way she was holding onto him confused him, though. It was most likely an act to fend off Slutty Sasha, but his heart still skipped a beat as she did it. “… Hughes has been trying to make himself sound important for years,” he muttered to her. “And Sasha… well… I take everything she says with a grain of salt…. she is always the one to bid the most during the Bachelor’s Auction….” He dreaded the idea that she might bid on him. “… I was tempted to punch that Old Gas Bag for looking at you like that.”
“And here I thought necessities such as water, food, clothing, and shelter would be the things of great import in third world countries,” Ellie commented blandly. Just because he ran a plastics factory, really didn’t mean that he and his wife had to have so much plastic surgery as to look like the products they sold. And if Mrs. Hughes had truly married for love, why was she looking at Thari as though she’d very much like lick him from head to toe and then ride him like a stallion. Never mind the looks Sasha gave every other man who walked by. Who knew, maybe they really were madly in love and just happened to have an extremely open relationship. The librarian fought off a shudder; that really wasn’t something she wanted to focus on.
There was no hiding her relieved sigh as Tarry finally led her away from the couple. “Are they serious? Oh my goodness those two are something else!” She shook her head and released her grip on her date’s arm a bit as they continued down the hallway. Ellie giggled at his muttered statement about punching Mr. Hughes as well as the comment his wife’s bidding at the bachelor auction. “Do I need to save you from Her Lustiness during the bachelor auction?” she teased and then made a slight face. “Don’t worry, the only person here who has a prayer of getting anywhere near my knickers is you, Thari.” She gave him a coquettish smile as she thought about the fact that he’d bought her the sexy green knickers she was currently wearing while Tarry led her toward the dining hall of the event.
