"Tell me, human, why is it that you squishy mages are held at such high regards? You would be useless against me."
Erk did not reply immediately. His violet eyes simply stared at the speaker, analyzing its features, its strange disdain for mages and humans, as if it were not human. Of course, the wings it had sprouting from its back did indicate that this might be the case. Finally, he cleared his throat, addressing the strange creature and answering its question.
"Perhaps," Erk began, his unflinching gaze now fixed on the creature’s eyes, "it is because we’ve a natural grasp of strategy, and can more easily advise our allies on how to act in battle. Perhaps it is because our magics deal with armored foes extraordinarily well, while blades might not even make a scratch. Or perhaps it is because of our versatility, since we can attack from the front or back lines. Why do you ask this?"
"Arrows are only effective if they hit, you must understand," Keeva responded, pursing her lips. She understood that wind magicks and arrows of course, could easily pick off several units of an all-hawk army, but she also knew hawks were typically fast enough to nullify their weaknesses. If they weren’t… Perhaps they deserved to be fell anyway.
She gave a harsh sigh through her nose. ”Another human unaware of their proper nature. Sad, but amusing. I’ve no problem with continuing to insult your race, especially if you don’t know any better.” Her lips curled into a smile. ”After all, it’s only human.”
"Most archers I've seen are accurate enough to be deadly before your army can even strike back." Erk said simply. "Regardless, I've had enough of this talk. Your own overconfidence makes it impossible for you to see reason. Until you are willing to accept the tactical benefits of mages and other such soldiers that you deem 'unfit', I'd prefer you not attempt to discuss them with me. I've had quite enough of you." He then turned away, walking off briskly.

"Preach it."
Erk sighed loudly. He’d finally managed to get away from his first charge as an escort again almost a year back, but she’d found him another time. She had been dogging him for the past few days, under the illusion that they were friends, if not something more intimate. The mere thought of that revolted Erk. He had to vent his frustration to someone, anyone, or he might end up blowing up at the poor girl again. Thankfully, he spotted the silver-haired dark mage he’d met a few days back, that Knoll fellow. Rather pleasant of a person, he was, so perhaps he’d be willing to allow Erk time to vent his frustrations.
"Excuse me, Knoll?" Erk said, somewhat hesitantly. "If you’ve a moment, I’d like to speak with someone about this little, er, problem I’ve been having lately.” After making sure that Knoll was listening and, indeed, not too busy, Erk launched into a rant.
"There’s this woman, you see," Erk said, "and I’ve known her for quite a while. When I first started taking on mercenary work, she hired me to escort her to a territory not all too far away. Naturally, I took the job, thinking that some poor cleric girl would certainly need protection from brigands and the likes. It was the worst time of my life. She never stopped talking. Nothing could make her stop. I’d tried everything in my power to get her to just shut up, but she just kept prattling on and on about the stupidest things. I’d half a mind to just lead her into a group of brigands and run away while she was lecturing them about ‘how to properly treat a lady like herself’ or some other nonsense. She dragged me into a war! I didn’t even get paid for doing it! She made me follow her around a battlefield while she waved her magic stick at people and made sure her lack of a proper brain didn’t get her killed! I managed to rid myself of her eventually, but then she finds me again while I’m escorting another charge, and she drags me into another war. After that was over, I finally managed to settle down, and I didn’t hear from her for quite a while, but no! The other day, I was minding my own business, just reading in my study, and that hellspawn Serra barges into my home and starts acting like she owns the place! I locked the door! I locked the door, and she used her staff to unlock it and waltz right in! She demanded that I let her stay there, and put up with her and pay for her meals! And I have to deal with her incessant, stupid chatter all day! I can’t take this blasted woman anymore! If I have to deal with her for another minute I’ll go mad!”
Send me "Preach it!" and my character will rant about something that annoys them.
"Excuse me, sir," Erk said, "but I believe you dropped this." He handed a magic tome to the silver-haired man as he spoke.
"Hnnn?" Knoll turned around to see a violet haired young lad, looking from his face, to what to the other was holding out to him.
It was…his tome? Eyes widening in surprise, he tentatively reached out, accepting the tome that he’d dropped. He honestly has been walking in a daze, feeling dizzy and a more than a little out of sorts. He’d been in the warm sun for too long, and with his frail health, that didn’t bode well.
Still, the other’s kindness was enough to warrant a gratuitous response, and he bowed his head slightly. "A-ah…thank you, sir. I’m sorry to have bothered you with a mistake of mine." Answering quietly, he held the tome close to himself, eyeing the other warily.
"A Shaman is what I am, though that may be translated in your location as a Dark Mage. Name matters not, but since I research that known as dark magic, call me what you will." Knoll nods back, taking another look at the other figure’s attire. Another student of magic? That attire…the one before him was no Priest, nor a Shaman. All that was left was…
"And you, perhaps, are a student of the Anima magics…? You know your tomes well, I must say. Mages these days can’t tell a Luna from a Flux, the ignorant fools…I am glad you’re not one of them."
"I might've guessed you were a shaman," Erk said. "Those dark robes of yours are rather uncommon among other mages. That, and you carry around dark tomes, which is kind of a giveaway. The ability to use dark magics is admirable, I'll admit. I can't say that I can do it myself." Erk listened to what Knoll said, then continued speaking.
"That is correct, I do indeed study anima magic," said Erk. "I was taught by Pent, the Mage General of Etruria. Moreover, I taught myself, and he was there to make sure I didn't go overboard and forget to eat again. He taught me about the other magics, too, but I didn't learn to wield them. I wish I could say I knew more about them than most mages, but I'd rather not. I'm not sure if I've more extensive knowledge than most or not, but I do have, at the very least, a rudimentary understanding of dark magic in general. Not to say that I wouldn't care to learn more. I am curious as to where you learned to use this magic, though."

[[Oh jeez I'm not really sure about what to do here. I'm not a musician, or a poet, and I'm not good at understanding the meanings of this stuff.
That being said, I'd have to say my choice of song for Erk might be Low, by Coldplay. To be honest, I spent way too much time trying to figure out what song I'd use for him, but I knew it'd be a Coldplay song xD
Anyway, I just feel like this does kind of... nyeh, I dunno, explain how he seems himself? I'm not sure what to say, so I'd just say go listen to the song. Seriously, it's a great song.]]

[[Hm... well, Erk doesn't actually know his last name. Since he was mostly raised by his foster family (Pent and Louise), he grew up with the name they always used for him, which was Erk. However, he doesn't know if that's even his real name, or what his last name is. He doesn't particularly care, though. He resents his birth parents, and will usually refuse to talk about them beyond saying that they "abandoned him". He doesn't know if they're still alive or not, and he doesn't care.]]

[[Uh... UH... *sweats nervously*
Erk generally prefers to seem as distant as possible from people. He purposely builds up walls around himself because he doesn't want people to think of him as anything positive, because he has a very low opinion of himself. He wants people to see him the way he sees himself: not worth talking to, boring, pretentious, and kind of an asshole.]]

"Footsoldiers?" Keeva repeated. Her smile was wider now, it seemed as if she had the upper edge. "You misunderstand. Footsoldiers, aye, may be taken easily. Footsoldiers are weak, typical fodder. The warriors I reference would be better referred to as wing-soldiers." She spread her wings slightly, just enough to draw attention to them.
Her wrist flicked in their direction. ”I have no doubt that an army of my brethren, none of which are mages, mind, would fare fine in battle. In fact, we have for centuries, even against the beorc with mages as yourself in their ranks.”
"So, you mean to tell me that all of your soldiers would be in flight during this hypothetical battle?" Erk said, cocking an eyebrow. "Then you would be even worse off. I do not know what these beorc things are, but clearly you mustn't have led a full-scale war against them. Small skirmishes are different. Legions of archers would make short work of you and your friends. From my experience, anything in flight is quite easily shot down by any archer good enough to serve in a proper army. Really, if you had a proper strategist you'd know the consequences of your overconfidence already."
