Mary Oliver also said that she wrote about the magic of being alive on Earth because she understood how grave the situation with capitalism was and rather than nailing that in with all of her hammers, she hoped that saying to people 'Look how beautiful this is, aren't we lucky?' they'd agree and want to align themselves and their values with life- both enjoying their own, caring about the life of others and this planet that we're made up of. she didn't say it entirely like that, but it was the general sentiment.
