Time to tell the story of how I (re)came out to my mom and dad cause I was thinking about it randomly and wanna type it up so that I have an easy reference if anyone ever asks! The year is 2018, and it's Thanksgiving day. I stop by my parents' to meet up with them, cause we're all gonna carpool to my grandma's for Thanksgiving dinner with the family, and my sister mentions that her gay best friend is stopping by during dinner (he's probably closer to my family than I am). My mom is worried because my uncle apparently exhibited homophobic tendencies when they were younger (he's better now) and says something along those lines. So, being the dumbfuck I am, i blurt out, "He's met 3 of my boyfriends and didn't care?" thinking that my mother knew I was pan and enby cause i definitely mentioned it multiple times in high school. Welp, apparently not, so she's already a lil shocked due to ingrained prejudice that she is really working hard to move past, when my sister says "Mom, you know I'm bi too, right?" Mom's face goes ashen. Then, coming running in from the next room over is my youngest sibling, screaming "Hey guess what! I'm trans and pan!" At this point, I'm 80% convinced my mom's about to have a stroke, and my dad, the most kind and accepting but still conservative man I've met to this day says "Look, I don't care who you're doing the do with, but you need to leave the room before your mom passes out" So we all go sit on the back porch, on Thanksgiving in Ohio, and slowly realize that we're all dumb as fuck for thinking the others were straight cis folks, and that mom is a lil more homophobic than we thought. Like, my dad is a big ass white man from Hicktown, Ohio, population: all German Catholics, and he was the one that was fine. Anyways, after freezing our respective genatalia off for 30 minutes, we go back inside, and get told mom called our grandma, uncle, aunt, and cousins to ask who knew, and was shook when she realized that everyone except her and dad was 100% aware that her children were a big ol bag of queers.
