📌 hi i'm myst, and this is my intro pin
‣ they/any, queer nonbinary catboygirlthing
‣ i'm an adult and apparently have been for a while. i know, i can't believe it either.
‣ currently hyperfixated on pokemon with a hardenshipping/magma+aqua focus. mostly ORAS-based but i love them all. big fan of the other villain teams as well. my favorite pokemon is banette.
‣ this is a pokemon blog, but my other fandoms include twst, genshin, sonic, vocaloid, ace attorney, etc. sometimes i like to combine my interests in crossovers but don't expect to see these otherwise.
‣ allegedly i draw. sometimes i might even write something. but mostly i just play dolls with my favs in my head
‣ kinda freaky, sorry. while there won’t be anything explicit, there may the occasional suggestive jokes and scenarios.
went insane and downloaded a ton of mmd models. i immediately had to line them up and compare them and i figured others might find this interesting too! i always believed in their size difference but i'm so insane about seeing it laid out so clearly, even in the chibi and USUM models.
everyone has a ship thats just: theyre perfect. they hate each other. theyre married. they havent spoken in 15 years. they have date nights three times a week. theyre divorced. theyre pining, its unrequited. its requited. theyre starcrossed. theyre meant to be. theyre doomed by the narrative. they love each other. theyve never held hands. they wont stop making out at parties. they cant look each other in the eye
i've been thinking about how there are pokeballs designed for teams aqua and magma in the tcg. since shelly and tabitha both used to work for devon, which, among other things, produces different types of pokeballs, i like to imagine shelly and tabitha, respectively, are responsible for leading the development of these balls for their teams
the inclusion of grimer and muk in the roster of pokemon that team aqua use in alpha sapphire is so genius and i think it says a lottt about archie and the team itself. and while this was obviously added after ORAS, the gen 7 dex entries for muk really tie it together in a way that makes me sooo emotional.
archie talks a lot about how humans have dirtied the ocean, and how it's impacted the pokemon that live there. but grimer and muk are pokemon that thrive in these polluted waters. and while others have been targeting these pokemon for extermination, team aqua actively uses them on their teams! archie himself has a muk!! because while the polluted ocean may be a genuine problem, these are still pokemon, and they don't deserve to die for it!!
i’m obsessed with maxie being a teacher at pasio academy. i’m also a big fan of the fact that anyone can attend lessons there. the thought of archie taking maxie’s classes Just to be a menace makes me giggle. he teases maxie by calling him “mr. maxie” and “teach” and keeps disrupting the class. even BETTER if it’s some subject maxie KNOWS archie is familiar with, but archie keeps throwing and getting things wrong On Purpose under the guise of “needing some one-on-one lessons (wink wink)”
i have many thoughts about archie and maxie and am constantly putting them into situations in my head. i'd loveee to actually write some of these as fics, but i'm unfortunately nottt much of a writer. maybe i should start sharing my thoughts on here because i'm genuinely so insane about them and i keep dumping it all on my friends who Don't Go Here
did you know that the pokemon maxie uses in multi battles perfectly cover all of sharpedo's weaknesses? camerupt's fire type covers grass and bug, ground covers electric, crobat's flying type covers grass and bug again but also fighting, and poison covers fairy and grass. both of these pokemon have the STAB moves to be able to pull this off.
yknow. just a fun fact :) sure would be a hell of a coincidence if he used to work with someone who uses a sharpedo!!
i've been taking a good look at archie and maxie's pokemon in ORAS, and i've noticed a few things i find very interesting! here's what i found, and how i feel this relates to archie and maxie themselves with some headcanons i've formed based on this information. i've included my reference material (screenshots of their teams from bulbapedia) at the end of the post under the cut to make it easier to follow along if you wanted!
first off, i want to talk about how they both have a mightyena and a golbat/crobat. on the surface, they seem to be identical: they have the same pokemon with the same moves. that makes sense, from a gameplay perspective. they're counterparts in different versions of the game, so it makes sense for some of their pokemon to be the same. there is one difference between them though, one that i'd almost overlooked. in the first battle with maxie, his mightyena has intimidate, but in the second, it has quick feet. in both battles against archie, his mightyena only ever has quick feet.
maxie's mightyena isn't the only one of his pokemon that has different abilities between battles. in the first battle against him, his camerupt has solid rock, while in the second, it has magma armor. the camerupt he uses as a multi battle partner has magma armor as well. an event distribution back in 2016 in japan gave out a camerupt based on the one maxie used in the second battle against him. it has the same moveset and holds a cameruptite as well, but this camerupt has solid rock as its ability. perhaps this means that maxie's camerupt having magma armor in the second battle against him was an oversight, and it was always meant to have solid rock, but it doesn't matter because maxie would immediately mega evolve it anyway. i will point out that ability capsules do exist in oras, but the concept of changing the ability of his pokemon only to immediately make that change useless with mega evolution seems kind of pointless!
in contrast, archie's pokemon's abilities stay consistent. of course this is easier since sharpedo only has rough skin as its standard ability and is easier to Not mess up if it was a coding error. but that's what makes his mightyena so interesting. archie's mightyena is consistent in its ability, while maxie's is not. why is this, since they're otherwise identical?
i like to think this means that maxie is actually using different pokemon every time you face him. the mightyena you fight in the first battle is not the same one you fight in the second battle. the first camerupt is not the same as the second, or even the multi battle partner or the one given away as an event. i like to interpret this as maxie training multiple of the same pokemon. it's more efficient this way, after all, to have more pokemon trained and available to battle. archie, on the other hand, uses the same pokemon every time you see him. as a lover of pokemon, archie relies on the same trusted team every time.
next, i want to talk about the moves their pokemon know. maxie seems to have a tendency towards strong moves with recoil. both his mightyena and camerupt in the second battle know take down, and his multi battle crobat knows brave bird and has a life orb. the real kicker here though is his weezing that knows explosion. maxie is described as the type who is willing to make sacrifices and this even shows in how he battles!
archie, interestingly, seems to have some poison strats going on. even if we disregard the crobat that he shares with maxie, archie's sharpedo knows poison fang, and his muk knows two moves with the chance to poison (sludge wave, gunk shot) compared to maxie's weezing's one (sludge bomb). archie's muk also knows venom drench, a status move that lowers the target's attack, special attack, and speed, but only if it's poisoned.
of course, there's overlap. they share some of the same pokemon with some of the same moves. of course i've talked about why this makes sense in-game, but what about in-universe? some of these strategies show through specifically in the pokemon that the both of them share, like their mightyenas knowing take down and their life orb-brave bird crobats, and their crobats knowing poison fang or cross poison. i like to think they learned from each other back when they used to work together, and even still, they end up teaching their pokemon the same moves the other would have even if it clearly couldn't have been coordinated between them at the time. THAT'S the reason they have some of the same pokemon with the same moves. they've been influenced by the other in a way that's stuck with them, even through their differences. even having taken different paths, being on opposing sides, there's parts of the other in them that'll never leave them.
