june 2025 status update: finally have some fish again! really great to be getting back into the hobby. have been posting some fish on my main but ill be moving most of that here going forward, i feel like i have enough fish to justify using a sideblog again. may see my dart frogs here also

tanks:

- 20 gallon long, home to a small breeding group of oryzias minutillus

- 20 gallon long community, home to some honey gouramis and pangio cuneovirgata

- 20 gallon long, currently home to one male betta mahachaiensis

- 10 gallon, home to a small group of hara jerdoni and some raccoon tiger shrimp

- 5 gallon, current growout tank for a trio of baby japan blue gold double sword guppies (who will be living in the community tank once theyre big enough)

- spec v, home to one scarlet badis

honorary mention to my 20 gallon long vivarium with four young-ish phyllobates vittatus dart frogs

tank: 5 gallon planted freshwater

inhabitants: black plakat domestic betta named eve, cull shrimp (neocaridina davidi), ramshorn snails (planorbidae sp.)

future plans: hopefully moving eve out of this tank and turning it into a shrimp tank, maybe for red rili neos or some sort of caridina

this is my 5g, i set it up to move my domestic betta into so i can use his 10 gallon for another fish i have that needs the space more. everything in this tank was something i already had just laying around or in another tank and considering that im very happy with how it turned out!

eve update: new brighter tank, still impossible to get a good photo of. wrote his name on his tank in dry erase marker and he posed by it for a picture :)

finally posting my female betta mahachaiensis! her name is miku and shes my sweet little lady and i love her so much. she lives in my brackish 20 long with the dancena ricefish (and is super hard to get good pics of because of the relatively low lighting on this tank so 2 of these pics are from like a month ago lol)

there are so many good fish out there all you have to do is look for one that caters to your interests there is no universal fish as long as you agree with the fundamentals like fins and gills are awesome you should be good

Hi! I’m super interested in keeping (Japanese) ricefish but havent found many resources online. Are there places you like to go for info on ricefish? Thanks!

if you mean the medaka/oryzias latipes, this page should be a decent starting point of information on their care and needs! seriouslyfish is usually the first site i check if i want to know more about a certain species of fish since they have a lot of information on a lot of species

tank: planted brackish 20 gallon long

inhabitants: indian ricefish (oryzias dancena), one female betta mahachaiensis (named miku), red racer nerite snails (vittina waigiensis), and gold nebula shrimp (caridina villadolidi)

this is my brackish 20 long! i keep it at a specific gravity of around 1.003 so i can have some plants, and its planted with primarily jungle val, as well as some java moss and salvinia minima. its scaped with river rocks, manzanita driftwood, and leaf litter. set up ~spring 2020
