Banana Poster Meaning

So everyone knows about the banana poster in Haise’s room right? Recently someone has brought to my attention that there is a semi-well known author in Japan by the name of Banana Yoshimoto.

According to her Wiki her most famous work was her book “Kitchen” and she has wrote over 12 novels over all two of which are “Pineapple Pudding and Song From Banana.”

Two of her favorite themes according to the Wiki are “the exhaustion of young Japanese in contemporary Japan” and “the way in which terrible experiences shape a person’s life.”

Also  “ Food and dreams are recurring themes in her work which are often associated with memories and emotions.” (sounds like Haise right?)

The interesting thing is a lot of her novels are more lighthearted in nature her most famous “Kitchen” being about a woman finding life after her Grandmother’s (her last living relative) death.

The young woman in the story finds comfort in cooking and her new friend Yuichi and his family as a surrogate family. She lives with them and cooks to show her thankfulness for their generosity.
