genuinely it's going to fuck over so many people who make an honest living off of YouTube

i'm down for it to affect bullshit targeted at kids in an unhealthy way but like what about people who play TCGs?? what about Toy Collectors who make content about toys and nostalgia items but have an audience that's adults??

YouTube is being shitty and cryptic and not answering questions and it's a legitimate problem. especially since it's their fault they're in hot water because they collected data on kids under 13.

Of course PokéTubers aren’t the only ones affected, almost EVERYONE on YouTube is but this is one of the few videos that have explained the situation well imo

And that’s the funniest thing about this whole situation, and Lockstin even points that out. Its YOUTUBES fault and they got tired of handling that issue so now they’re shoving it on content creators lmfao

MOST OF THESE content creators use ad revenue to be able to pay for rent, for bills, editors, animators, not to mention their FAMILY. Coppa will make it to where content that is deemed “kid-friendly” will NOT be searchable, will NOT have ads (or extremely regulated ones), will NOT be recommended, and will NOT have comments. Basically, the video might as well not exist lmao and that’s absolutely ridiculous

yepp exactly!! even if you're responsible and mark your videos, you're fucked. no one will be able to search for them, seek them out, or be suggested them. and people who are responsible and kid friendly will lose out on their living.

there IS a site where people can appeal to YT and the FTC to try and get these regulations dismissed, i'm on mobile tho and can't remember what the site is at the moment though.

hey y’all here’s the link to tell the FTC what you think about COPPA and YouTube’s shitty implementation of it! they’re accepting comments through the end of the month. a lot of content creators are lobbying together to demand revisions of the implementation.

so videos that aren't kid friendly enough get demonetised and restricted and videos that are too kid friendly get even worse treatment... literally what content are people even allowed to make now??
