I created this blog not only as a way to chronicle my adventures, but also to share with the world my obstacles and my accomplishments while backpacking with an autoimmune system disorder that attacks the Gastrointestinal tract called Crohns Disease. While I travel I usually don't have medication. Through this blog I will detail all my traveling, of course, but also any hoops I have to leap through and my way of self medicating while on the road. I hope this helps anyone who is too afraid to travel because of their chronic illness. I have Crohns Disease, however, It does not dictate my life. I will fight every day to be happy, to do the things I love while also taking care of myself, and to see everything this lovely and extraordinary planet has to offer.
We met the greatest couple last night from Idaho that gave us a ride then gave us a place to stay for the evening. They educated us on endless knowledge of potatoes and their crazy adventures. Then we said our farewells and we get picked up right away multiple times and our final ride was a French man named Joseph who was a fellow wwoofer and he let us stay with him on his farm! It's been lovely.
Portland, Oregon I love the energy of a place so comfortable in its own existence. Where being expressive is encouraged and the flow of peace through each other makes this city so enjoyable.
We were stuck, hadn't got a ride for HOURS. We were still two and half hours away from our destination and it was getting dark. We were thinking about just calling it a night when this guy going all the way to where we were going pulls over and picks us up. This man was the coolest, most down to earth, working man. He had a huge heart and was so kind. When we got out of the car he wished us luck, told us he loved our story, and gave us a bag full of weed and 40$. It was such a lovely thing. Humanity is beautiful.
We just got offered a free RV as we were walking down the street. Not even an hour prior a car drove past and gave Sam and I free lunches and water. Only in Oregon man.✌💕
Today my lover and I have set out on an adventure. We are travelling half the country before setting out for the UK in late August. Not being able to work in Yellowstone was such a disappointment and since that decision I have decided to quit my treatment and live a healthy life style and hope the universe does kindly with my body. I expect flair ups and hard days. I expect painful hours and excruciating nights. But I also am excited for the moments that I would have never had if I staid at home, poisoning my body with medication that usually did more harm than good. This is just my personal opinion and I do not encourage this life style on the most severe of cases, this is simply my way of existing and I am happy with it. I will keep everyone posted on this journey!
This was a theater that was converted into a skate park/refuge for the wild youth. The energy that radiated from this structure was so powerful. You could feel the angst, passion, anger, love, acceptance, friendships, fears. All of it you could feel so deeply, it just illuminated the walls. Pateluma, California - The Phoenix
We got into a white van with a guy named Uncle John and a dog named Wilson. We sat in fold out chairs in the back and he was pretty great. Helped us look for new farms after we escaped the bad one, another wwoofer who was with us called it “Mission: Save the Girls”
You can find adventure right in your backyard. Explore your home...there is beauty all over. You don't have to travel far to discover something you've never seen before, expirience things you've never felt. ✌ Maliahfaye 🌻🌲
