So today I'm taking a break from sign making. Too much lettering, I'm gonna go blind lol. So after I got the mapping down last night, which really is just doodling, this morning I've started on the actual sketch. So she's going to be tribal, got some sharp features, piercings that will have some long chains attached. The feathers I'll put straight on to the canvas. I'm not overly worried about building up the ears as for the most part they will be covered in hair. Being steampunk inspired this will be a mixed media painting, adding some texture and cogs to the piece. I did play with the idea of making her more cartoonish but with the image I have in my head it just won't work. Next I'll work on the eyes, add a few last minute details then transfer to canvas. Mapining out my next Painting, it's not gonna look anything like the sketch. Normally I don't map, I'm a wing it and hope for the best kind of girl. However, with this piece I do have a lot going on with it and very specific details I need to fit into a 20x30ish space so mapping everything out is going to be super important. I'm very much going out of my comfort zone on this piece. It's going to consist of many layers, lots of dry brushing (hate dry brushing) and nuteral colors. Which for anyone who follows me knows I'm all about the bright and bold. I'm also going to be trying some new blending techniques and focus on making it more realistic which sets it apart from my usual cartoonish characters. I have no doubt this is going to be a long painful process with a cry of relief at the end, however, I always endeavor to evolve. (at Grande Prairie, Alberta)
