Johanna did her best to heed his words. She did not have a single mean bone in her body, but the urge to drink was potent. Resisting the beast was physically painful. Her entire form trembled and she gripped his wrist, trying to keep still. A small whimper escaped her. It was as though she were a pup deprived of attention. Or perhaps a treat, in this case.
She watched his hand move back curiously. As he retrieved the vial, her eyes fixated on the object. What was it? She was almost afraid of it. Still, she sensed no evil from his aura. Hesitantly, she raised her hand, allowing him access to her quivering arm.
Ansel fixed the needle, watching her the whole time. His gaze focused entirely upon her eyes. Were they dilated? The light made it hard to tell. She was manic, obviously. Hysterical.
He took her arm, gripping her wrist tightly between thumb and forefinger, and searched for her pulse.
He couldn’t, for the life of him, find it.
But now he was taking too much time. She needed the vial. He could check again later. He found a vein and injected the blood promptly.
“Can you tell me your name? Perhaps how you came to be here?”
She was silenced by his words. Anything you suffer here is a gift in that light. Perhaps that was the truth of it. Perhaps she was being foolish, greedy. She could breathe without pain, could walk without need of her cane. That was what she had come to this city for, correct?
“I… found some Hunters there,” she replied. “They were protecting the beasts which I found there. I… am beginning to understand. Beginning to question my purpose, here. I was meant to fight beasts, not men. However, I find myself fighting more of the latter than the former.”
“The line between man and beast is rather blurred here. I suggest you don’t think too hard on it during the fight. You’ll make a neurotic of yourself.”
Ansel withdrew a vial from the box, and returned to her. “Here. The sedatives.” He sat at the table again, and placed the vial of pills on its surface. He opened his mouth, as if to speak, but hesitated.
Then he uttered, “Doubt is a poison. An unsure hand will collapse under the weight of itself. I would hate to see you lose your life over doubt. My advice to you is to avoid it, or to stifle it. In whatever way possible. You might always share your doubts with me here, Annabelle. But you mustn’t ever take it with you. Not out there.”
My sister’s Hunter from Bloodborne. His name is Dr. Ansel Deering, hasn’t slept since he was born, and does NOT trust Alfred in the slightest.

I like to imagine that random crying baby you hear at times just really gets to Ansel.
Oh it’s sunday.
I like how these skeletons are almost holding hands, it’s sweet.

When the man stooped down, his features became clear. He looked kind. He was a doctor, he cared, and she was going to use him. It was right there on his face. It was on his clothes. The lifeblood. She needed it. Johanna’s eyes went wide, her mind unable to process anything more. “I-I..”
Without another moment, the woman grabbed his shirt collar, pulling him close. Before she could process her actions, Johanna licked at that man’s skin, desperately trying to consume whatever sustenance she could. She was nothing but an animal now. When she was certain there was none left on his face, she moved to lap at his neck and whatever she could get out of his shirt. “I..need the red nectar..” she managed to choke out.
Shock kept Ansel from reacting at first. Then confusion. Then curiosity. At last, he could no longer withstand this, and he gripped the front of her clothes, pushing her away from him.
“That’s enough- you’re unwell, madam. I have a vial, just stay still.”
Perhaps she intended to kill him. She had made no such move yet, but he would gladly kill her if she tried. She was obviously beastlike, animalistic. Blood starved. His compassion could only extend so far for such an unreasonable subject. He reached into his pocket and withdrew a vial.
“Now calm down, and let me see your arm.” He continued to hold her, although he was sure she could break his grip if she so desired. What would happen if she did? Would she try to seize his own blood? He almost wanted to see her try- was almost fascinated by the concept. What would it feel like, to die in such a way?
