takumi recognized her as the woman he’d encountered on the hoshidan outskirts. dark hair, imposing presence, sharp eyes---really, it couldn’t be anyone else. hinata and oboro were close by as he wandered the market streets, but just far away enough that he could have some liberty in browsing the various stalls. she was obviously a foreigner---what was this woman doing in hoshido still? brown eyes couldn’t help but FIXATE on her as she went about her business, though there was a part of him that felt embarrassed for such unprincely nosiness.

❝ Would you like to rest? ❞ Concern lit his oculars as he studied Takumi. It was most curious how easily he had placed himself within the role of retainer. Of course, at its commencement, he had been resistant to it, having nearly fought viciously every step of the way, each word frigid and each gesture of protection curt and sharp like a blade. Still, with how he placed an arm around Takumi, as if to steady him, one would have not thought him a former criminal–one would have thought him serving the royal family his entire life. ❝ Yes, he has the kitten, I’m certain. ❞ Kalle, on the other hand, despite Takumi’s protestations, had adored the ride to Nohr, having excitedly spent his evening atop the main deck staring at the moonlit sea and feeling the wind comb through dark locks. Perhaps he would have done well for himself as a shiphand in another life.

“i can make it to the castle, i think,” he muttered, though he accepted the helpful arm around his shoulders. kalle was warm, and in a place as cold as nohr, it eased both the weakness in his legs and the frigidness of his skin. he looked tired despite their impromptu nap, lavender all too apparent beneath his eyes and hair slightly askew from lounging in his quarters for the majority of the journey. takumi sighed as he put his weight against kalle---he would request a hot bath as soon as he was able to be alone, and then he would soak away his misery for as long as the water stayed comfortable. “i’ll rest when i get there, okay? there’s no need to worry about me.” he didn’t sound irritated, surprisingly---mostly neutral. when he looked up at kalle, his cheeks flushed pink, a nervous hum trapped in his throat.

“i’m still feeling a little unsteady from the journey here, sorry---” takumi gripped kalle’s sleeve as he swayed, nohr’s cold only making him feel even MORE unsettled. traveling overseas was the worst, and the youngest prince was certain it would never grow on him. at least he had the manakete, though, a man he now accepted as his retainer---and maybe more? the events that had occurred in his quarters beneath the decks were still fresh in his mind, and takumi easily turned scarlet every time he remembered them. “hinata has the kitten, right? i was so ready to get off the ship that i just---” bolted off, he added silently, sigh passing through his lips. takumi truly despised sounding so delicate.

“Like children?” Leo could not help but smile at the notion the prince had just presented. There was something that bubbled along with it —- something that had the semblance of a chuckle or a laugh he could not but help let out. Truly, the king thought, while the impulsiveness of the adopting decision cannot be denied, Takumi had a conviction in his decision to care for them.

“Well….it would be a sad thing to separate them.” his words drawled as he leaned in, pushing back lost pieces of the Hoshidan’s hair behind his ear. All before Eos or Morgana could see it as thing to be played with. “And you do seem adamant about caring for these two. Let’s just hope they are kind towards paperwork and busy kings. But I do have a question for you, though—-

“You’ve never had a cat before? Don’t tell me you thought your castle too small for them or there’s a shortage in felines in Hoshido.”

“i---sort of like that, i guess...” takumi pinkened at the turn in conversation, or it could have been at leo’s rare laughter. it touched soft parts of his heart that no one else could reach with such ease, and tugged on the strings. the hoshidan, completely CAPTIVATED by a nohrian---what a bizarre reality.

gentle fingers in his hair relaxed him enough to coax his eyes shut, and takumi’s hand slid down to rest on the king’s knee. no one else was as susceptible to takumi’s gentle touches as leo, be they the adjustment of clothing or a thumb against his cheek. “i’m sure you can train them to keep AWAY from the paperwork---or entrust a servant with that.” he sighed gently and pet one of the kittens with his free hand, the other tracing mindless circles into the other man’s leg. “i just---i wanted one, but i didn’t want to seem demanding or childish. i don’t have to worry about that so much now, though...”
