I have that obsessive thought I just can't get rid of for 449 days now.
What if.. just imagine it, what if Rook would get an invitation to visit the south? What if Rook would meet Inquisitor in Skyhold instead of Cobbled Swan? What if bioware would remember a simple thing: people buying their games actually love their games?
Nonono just imagine it.
Skyhold
Do you remember first time playing DAI and, just after Haven, the cutscene starts: Inquisition finding their way through the snow at Frostback Mountains, people are tired, and Trevor Morris is violating your heart strings with that beautiful music, and then you finally see fortress for the first time?
And now imagine how it would've been like to return to the Skyhold ten years after. It changed, maybe even fell into desrepair (especially after being sealed by the Divine) but it's full of people regardless. People who don't forget, who came to fight again. Music has been changed but you can recognize the tune.
And, with Rook, you can return to the Skyhold once more. Walk past the gates, look around and see the courtyard and the superior tower you once been upgrading, the tavern "Herald's Rest", then you can walk up the stairs. Main hall. Garden on the left. Rotunda.
No more orlesians sarcastic whispers, no dinner tables. No interior decoration and fancy windows glass. No throne.
Skyhold lost its shine and pomposity but not the spirit. People still can find a shelter here, people still can find a glimpse of hope. Skyhold is abandoned no more, it's trying to hold the sky once again.
You can't tell me it doesn't match the main datv theme. Returning to the Skyhold and seeing what time has done with the place that was a home once is a greatest regret. It's an emotional punch that players would feel; not the rebellion or Mythal's drama which is not the story players were involved in personally. That was their fortress, their story, and that would've been their regret.
Literally the best decision to make especially if Inquisitor aren't supposed to distract new players with their presence (which is dumb move, always has been and always will be). That location alone could've been one of the best datv moments. I will never understand how and why Bioware missed that opportunity.
