Great dialogue can come from radical emotional honesty. But in most real conversations, people

dodge questions

answer indirectly

lie (badly)

change the subject

crack jokes to avoid serious answers

lie (convincingly)

say half of what they mean

tell the truth but get so anxious/angry/defensive others now think they're lying

If your dialogue feels unnatural, it might be because everyone is saying exactly what they think, or articulating their thoughts too well. Try letting characters hide things instead.

Subtext is where tension lives.

I have a few others I'm saving for later on, cuz for this first run I was testing the water for all the choices and getting familiar with the world by playing as a preexisting oc, so since I'm already a few days into an azata path + daeran romance run, the brand new OCs I have for those can sit back until I start missing aivu again (2.5 azatas, a tiefling bard for daeran, an aasimar kineticist for arueshalae, and a half elf skald for ulbrig. Don't worry about what that .5 means😈) Aside from that, I still need to decide on what initial mythic path to go down for a character who's gonna go the swarm route.

And I still need to come up with names for those last two characters in the poll 😅
