i dont think shipping is antithetical to good media analysis but even in situations when the romantic reading absolutely makes a story worse sometimes you have to go well. we're playing with toys. yes i know this character would not get into a conventional romantic relationship and if they did itd ruin a lot of the themes of the story but fortunately the original story still exists and i have no control over it. im playing in the space and nobody can stop me.

Help get rid of these whitewashed Isabela mods

Hello all my lovely followers! I have found 9 mods on Nexus mods that blatantly whitewash Isabela from Dragon Age 2. It's crazy to me that these mods have been up for 15 years and still haven't been taken down. But I believe if we work together we can finally get them removed.

If you can click the links below, they’ll take you to the mod pages. Click the "Report Abuse" button as seen below.

Then select the option "I believe this mod is breaking the rules". Then select "Inappropriate content". When asked why the content is inappropriate, select “Other Terms of Service violation”.

Finally leave a brief description and photo. Here’s a message example written by @dalishious and customizing it is encouraged so as to not get spam filtered:

This mod changes a Black character to make her white, and breaks the Inappropriate Content guidelines: “Content that may be generally construed as provocative, divisive, objectionable, discriminatory, or abusive toward any real-world individual or group, may be subject to moderation.” As such, this mod should not belong on NexusMods and must be removed.

It'll only take a few minutes to report them all. And it would be nice to have less racism in this fandom and in the world in general. Please help and report this stuff and/or share it with others. Thank you!

the convo wrt zevran and leliana originally being gay and being made available to the opposite gender because of homophobic backlash is really nuanced, especially considering the fact that there is only One gay man and One lesbian companion throughout the entire series. like yeah i actually would've liked if homophobia hadn't prevented a gay writer from writing a gay character, actually. but 15+ years after release i feel like we just need to accept that these are bisexual characters in a medium where bisexuality is also underrepresented and move forward.

but i feel like the discourse always either tries to paint bi people wanting representation as homophobes who don't understand the lack of gay rep, or gay people hurt by a lack of gay characters as biphobes who want to erase canon bi rep. when really the REAL issue is the way dao and dai consistently prioritise straight-locked romances. 🫩

can i say something. i feel like exhibitionism as a kink/concept simply could not exist among circle mages. there is no thrill of risking being caught because all that happens is your classmate elbows your ass out of the way and grabs whatever it is they were looking for in that closet you're fucking in and tells you in a bored voice to hurry the fuck up because you're right in front of the spare potion bottles.

without dismissing the ways in which zevran DOES have an ability to be v conscientious and kind and tactful, i think sometimes we tend to ascribe his respect of the warden's boundaries or shaping his tactics around protecting the warden or general charm to those things being kind of instinctual and inherent or romantic. but while balancing this w the fact that there's no reason he can't be good at those things simply bc he's good at them or that his motivations remain static, 9/10 at least certainly at the beginning of his relationship w the warden, he is doing those things bc he wants to be in the warden's good graces. he does not display the same restraint and care for the other companions from the get-go, nor do the stories he tells abt himself indicate he bestows those abilities on the mage he gets credit for assassinating, for example, or, more pertinently, rinna.

he's not in love w the warden from the start. his motivation wrt warden from the start is: make this person like me so they'll protect me. he's trying to be whatever the warden needs so that he isn't disposable. it can get romantic later; it seems a real disservice to his whole arc to say that where he ends up by the end of the game if you've taken the time to get to know him is simply who he's been the whole time.
