hopping back on my autistic ryland grace grind with yet another underdeveloped inkling of an idea but I imagine Erid is loud. like VERY loud. they communicate through sound and as we see in the movie Blip-A, they decorate with noisemakers

grace who has spent the last 4-5 years living on a ship with nothing but the ambient hum of lifesupport systems in the background and a best friend who quickly learned how to adapt to his preferred noise levels, who is arriving on a planet where silence is darkness and quiet is uncomfortably dim, where every eridian is overcome with excitement not only to meet this funky space creature but also that theyre going to live!!!

I just know grace has one of the worst meltdowns/panic attacks of his life the first time he steps foot in a room full of well meaning eridians

Okay, but why are we not talking about the fact that Ryland and Rocky spent several years travelling to Erid and Ryland didn't get to take a shower even once during the whole journey. He only had that little sponge-bath zone, and I think there was not enough space or material on the Hail Mary for Rocky to build him a shower. Eridians cannot smell but I assume Ryland reeked real bad when they arrived on Erid (especially after his very limited diet of liquid astronaut food and Taumoeba which probably changed his body odor as well).
