Thinking about Kaito and Dracmon again and like

Y'know how they always emphasize that Digimon know they're waiting for someone and they recognize their partners instantly as the person they were waiting for?

I think it'd be interesting if it was two-sided and Kaito also always felt like something was missing and he was waiting for someone.

Him being a little kid and staring out the window every night thinking "surely today they'll come for me" but not knowing who "they" even are. He tried explaining it to his parents, but they didn't get it.

Eventually as he got older he kept those feelings to himself because he knew no one would ever understand. If only he'd held on a little longer, he'd have known Miu feels the same way. Instead they both just think something is wrong with them.

On the bright side, the empty feeling does at least lessen when he's with Miu. Except...he feels guilty that his own sister isn't who he's waiting for, that he still feels like there's someone else he needs.

Even before the move, making friends was hard. He was always too aware that "you’re not them."

Maybe at some point it starts making him angry. Why is he the only one with an ache that never goes away? Why do people keep trying to talk to him who aren't The One?

Getting in fights because being mad is easier than being empty and hurting is better than not feeling at all.

Until the day the kids all end up in the other world. This strange monster starts talking to him, and he knows he should be scared, but he isn't. Not even a little bit. He's still worked about losing Miu, so he doesn't notice it at first, but

Once the dust settles

Once Miu is found and safely back with the group

Kaito goes to lie down for the night and realizes for the first time

The ache is finally gone. He doesn't have to wait anymore.
