No but can we talk about a Dusk Court

A smallish coastal court geographically between Day and Night, with a mediterranean climate. White buildings that stayed cool but purposefully reflected and absorbed the dying light of the sunset; during the day it looked simple enough but in the evening the whole place came to life.
An ancient classical cultural hub which inspired a lot of what Velaris became, people travelling from all across Prythian to be in the presence of the performers and artists that graced the streets.
Not only a centre of the arts but also logic, with great philosophers and logicians sustaining the work of the other great centres of learning across the world.
Also the closest thing Prythian had to a democratic republic, a High Lord supported by the decisions of a senate, which lived in this little golden age bubble.
Give me Hellenic period Prythian, a court that represented the best and brightest potential for Prythian’s future, a court which, upon its destruction in the war, led to Rhys’s ancestors hiding Velaris and everything that represented because how could they possibly bear to lose such a thing again.
Before CC3 comes out I'd like to draw attention to this post from *2016* about the dusk court. Yes I have been a dusk court truther for 8 years. Just in case it's important in 3 weeks time.

Seriously though, I think, if Stephenie Meyer had stretched the story form just The Host into a few books, and fleshed out the other characters, with back stories and more present day screen time, it would have been BOMB.
I definitely think she started building his redemption. She just didn't flesh it out enough.
I missed the poll but it's prob for the best because I am split. In the book as it stands in canon, frankly, fuck him - but I agree that redemption seeds were sown and 15yo me would have eaten it up in a sequel.

I have,,, a legitimate theory. It is of course for the Seeker. I am a Seeker stan.
Okay, things we know, the evidence:
-Lacey is conscious
-Humans only stay conscious if they're taken as adults and knew what was gonna happen to them, so later into the occupation.
-The Seeker hasn't been to another planet. This is her first.
-She thinks Fords Deep Waters would have reacted poorly to the early years of the occupation, suggesting she was there for it.
-She tells Wanderer that she agrees that childhood is "extraordinarily tedious."
-The Seeker is not a skipper.
-The souls have known about Earth and had it slated for full scale occupation for over a century, as there are souls on the planet during canon, who came from planets over a century away.
So, for the seeker to have a strong enough opinion of childhood to call it "extraordinarily tedious", I would think she would have to have been a child here on Earth herself, not just seeing it though her host, but either way that couldn't have been Lacey, or Lacey would not have remained conscious.
So Lacey cannot be The Seeker's first host. The seeker had to have been inserted into Lacey during the occupation, after the death or near death of her previous host.
That just leaves the questions of,,,, how many previous hosts? How long has she been here, Seeker-ing? What happened to her previous host? Was it death by old age? Or, being that it happened in the middle of a war we suspect she was participating in from the beginning, something more violent?
What if- and that was the crux of the theory, that Lacey isnt the Seekers fist host, the rest of this is just what can't technically be disproven by the narrative- Lacey, Wild Human that she was, nearly killed our seeker in an escape attempt that failed, and so other seekers or souls present, preformed emergency surgery on the spot and put The Seeker into Lacey, the only avaliable host in the moment, to save her life?
Could you imagine, not just being stuck in the body of your would-be murderer, but stuck with her screaming in you head?
Could you imagine not just having your would-be murderer piloting your body, but not being able to retaliate in any way but your words and thoughts?!!?!?
How wild would that be?
And even if it wasn't Lacey, she still might have been amost-killed by a wild human, and then she woke up in a host that was screaming at her just like Wanderer.
Maybe our Seeker, having been with Lacey for years, HAS managed to pick Laceys brain for her rebel pockets secrets. What if Lacey had to watch as all her friend and family were caught, seeing her but not HER chasing them down!?
Also, if Lacey had previously been hiding out either on her own or with others, she might have been complaining about the caves because her hideout was like, in the city with electricity and plumming, like I never really thought about it, like why would you be ungrateful to be safe, but her safety might have been better, we don't know.
And isn't that the tragedy!?
And of course going back to the number of hosts, if we Assume low and Lacey is only second, but give the previous host, Idk a healthy 45 years, she would have seen every human tragedy from like the 70s to the early 2000s of we assume the novel takes place in its publishing year of 08
Of we Assume high, third or fourth, hell she could have seen world War 1 and 2.

OH my god honestly the ramifications of this.
It all really comes back to the timeline of the invasion, doesn't it? But I'm pretty firmly in the belief now that Souls identified Earth (presumably from afar, based on there being intelligent life on the planet?) hundreds of years before the events of the book take place, because of the time it would have taken to presumably study humanity, plan the invasion and travel there. It makes sense that the planet was already at least part-colonised when Wanda left her previous planet, too, right? Or is there just a blind assumption that the invasion is going successfully, because some souls left decades earlier?
On that - do souls have some kind of instant inter-planetary communication? So that souls who decide to go to a planet have the most up to date information? Because all waves that could carry messages surely would also take a long time to reach the other planets? I haven't studied physics in like 12 years so gonna have to assume the souls do have some magical instant comms.
But they must have been on Earth at least for a while, because they've built infrastructure: spaceports, healing facilities, factories to produce the healthcare, which presumably differs depending on host bodies, so couldn't just be duplicated on different planets?
(Side note: if souls have been there for decades or longer, are we in some alternative timeline where major events from the 20th century as we know it weren't allowed to happen? It's hard to imagine souls seeing the Manhattan Project or like... the Rwandan genocide happening and being cool with it.)
I think it makes complete sense that the Seeker lived on Earth as a child, and am also now fully on board with her emergency insertion into Lacey years before the book. That's a great theory and it makes a lot of sense. She is JADED for a soul - angry and intense and obsessive. She has seen some shit. I completely agree with her having been there for perhaps multiple lifetimes.
Also 100% on board with Lacey hating the seeker so much because she has used her knowledge to find other rebel humans - the seeker seems like she relishes the thought of doing it to Melanie, after all - why shouldn't she have done it before?

How did you do the effect for he eye in Return, A Stranger? It so iridescent and pretty, and when you zoom in, it also kinda gives black hole vibes
I basically layered a lot of desaturated stock images, with various transparencies but kept a bit of saturation on one which had a bit of a chromatic halo. Then messed with the shadow/highlights of the original image until it was appropriately intense and that was pretty much it! :)
