Welcome back once again dear readers to the Saturday night column on the 8x8 theory. This week I’ve once again decided to do some core four work with (yet another) draw package this time for our friends that both dictate and obey the law, the Azorius. I’d break this up into surge and repeatable draw but this color is so good at repeating draws that it’s basically pointless. Instead I’ll break it into who controls the timing on these draws. Now without further ado let’s talk cards.
First and foremost our only surge draw effect Sphinx’s Revelation I have a close personal relationship with this card and boy howdy is it satisfying to resolve. I mean look at it what’s more satisfying than ripping 12 cards and gaining 12 life? Not a lot that’s for sure
Next up on timing we control is Drogskol Reaver or the ghost of value present. Flying, Double Strike, lifelink, and you draw whenever you gain life! I’ve been on the receiving end of this guy and man did I wish I wasn’t.
Ephara, oh ephara you never really did see play in standard did you? Well we’re about to make up for that because you’ve got a plenty fine effect for commander and on a 6/5 body to boot.
Okay so admittedly Sky Hussar is not the most efficient way to get extra cards but it is an essentially free way to draw cards which is nothing to sneeze at.
Finally for our self controlled draw we have Armistice it’s not flashy or fast but sometimes you just can’t afford to spare the blue mana you have access to and that’s why it’s here.
I believe Isperia, Supreme Judge demonstrates what i mean by opponent controlled draw the best, by giving you a card each time an attacker is declared against you she creates a weird almost pillow fort effect where your opponents must calculate whether or not the swing is worth it.
Reparations operates under the same principle but instead making your opponents consider how badly they want your threats or combo pieces gone.
Finally Mystic Remora I won’t go too indepth here because I’ve already talked about it quite a bit in my Mono-Blue Draw 1x8 but understand it’s incredibly powerful
This week for honorable mentions I’m only going to suggest Rhystic Study, and Mentor of the Meek as they are two of the most notorious draw engines in either color.
That’s all for this week folks as always thanks for reading and hopefully I’ll see you back here next week!
