Wow. Been Quite the Week

I had a deadline that I was working toward, but now that’s over, so things should be back to normal on Monday.

In The Spirit Of...

In the spirit of the quote I posted today, and before I go off and disappear for the weekend. (Weekends are family time and/or me time, so I don’t do internet/sm stuff - though I will be reading a lot for some reason - *laughs softly)... I used to work in HR. We had a rule for vacant positions that you could not appoint from a field of one. That has stuck with me, and I have a hard time shaking it. It’s something I’m facing right now as I look at the fics I’m going to be reading to prepare for my vote. What is the generally accepted practice in fandom?

Hello Everyone

Writers are by their very nature somewhat introverted, or at least that’s what I have found. So I’m stepping outside of my comfort zone to step out of the shadows, stop lurking and introduce myself.

My name is Lynd. I’ve been writing for quite some time, and about six months ago discovered fan fiction for several TV shows I enjoy when a friend introduced me to Archive Of Our Own. Since then I’ve been devouring fics, because I’ve not been well enough to work on my own writing.

So another full disclosure here. The same friend told me about The Espenson Awards, but also said I needed a Tumblr to participate (which seems strangely restrictive to me, because all the fics I’ve read are on AO3, but... I don’t make the rules, I’m just trying to follow them). And because I’m following the rules - here I am, joining Tumblr, because the writers whose work I’ve read deserve recognition.

I’ll try not to lurk so much, and be a part of those fandoms I’ve jumped into, and I hope no one thinks I’m showing up where I’m not wanted.

Pompeii: Burn For You

Rumple is a Pict living with his son in the North of Britain. When his village is raided by the Roman army , he is captured and ends up in the world of slavery and gladiators.

Belle is the daughter of the governor of Pompeii, Campania Felix, Mauricius Nerva. She is 19 and way past her marriage age. When she returns from her travels to Rome, her father announces his choice of husband.

In the midst of it all, they meet. And then the mountain growls.

This story isn’t finished, but isn’t by a long shot abandoned! I’m working on the next chapters. This fic contains : slavery, gladiators, Roman way of life, bathhouses, and of course something I can’t escape, a volcano!

2. Ad Lucem

Remus Aurelius Nox is a rich man from an important Roman family. He lives in Iberia where he is governor of the capital of the province. When he is in Rome to finish some business, he sees something he can’t turn away from.

Remix of Pompeii: Burn for You, with the roles reversed and a different setting. Still a Roman setting and still master-slave dynamics. Warning: has some non-con in it, but will become very consensual in the future.

I don't have much to put forward because the past year has been - well, it wasn't great, although I ended in a much better place than when I started. Also I was mostly working on old fics, so there are only a couple of new things.

Comfort and Joy is the latest Extracurricular/RumBelleRush fic that I FINALLY finished so if you wanted, you could nominate that for Best Threesome. Usual Gold and Rush bickering and then lots of orgasms for Belle. You could nominate the Extracurricular series for Best Series, if you were so inclined. It's just fun and smut with no angst, which is very unlike me.

A Rose in Winter is my continuation of Key to the Cell, in which Dark Castle Rumbelle travel to the Land Without Magic to find Baelfire. Heartfelt Papafire reunion at Christmas and the Blue Fairy meets her doom. I suppose that might fit Best Storybrooke or maybe Best Baelfire. I was thinking it might fit Reunion but I'm not sure how much fluff is needed to qualify and while there is some fluff, there's also a little angst due to the Papafire feels.

Obviously these are only suggestions and I'd be grateful for any nominations you wanted to throw my way.

One of the Others - Best Supernatural and Best AU Belle An isolated Gold and Belle struggle to connect with people, until they find each other. It probably helps that they’re both undead.

Whisky Glasses - Best Golden Lace and Best Lacey Neal invites Lacey to stay at his dad’s house whilst her apartment’s flooded. You can guess what happens next. [Prequel to Lipstick Kisses]

Dearly Departed - Best Historical AU and Best Horror Late Georgian AU for October, with body snatchers and their cadavers coming back to life. Sort of.

The Cunning - Best Creature AU and Best Unexpected Twist People keep going missing in the woods, and Belle suspects Gold knows why.

Lace Roses - Best Smut: B/D//S/M and Best AU!OUAT AU where Rumple falls over the town line instead of Belle, and leaves Gold to discover the truth about his relationship with French’s daughter. (I’m censoring the category so tumblr doesn’t block it.)

A Faint Reflection - Best Dark Castle and Best Wish!Rumple. The reunion Wish!Belle and Wish!Rumple deserved, with a mixture of fluff, angst, and misunderstandings.

The Best Offer - Best Movie AU and Best AU Gold. Written for 2020’s RCIJ, inspired by the film of the same name. An esteemed auctioneer meets an elusive and enigmatic young heiress.

For Your Consideration, Part 1

This year all of my work aside from the secret gifting events was centered around A Monthly Rumbelling, which put out 5 fics a month for 12 months in a row. As I wrote this series I had a plan: to create a Choose Your Own Adventure series using the individual stand alone works from that 60 fic library. So far I have created two fics in the Rumbelle Me A Story series, but there are several more to come.

I would be honored if any of my writing was to be nominated, but my pride and joy for the year is the Rumbelle Me A Story series and in that series, the fic titled Those We Leave Behind. I would be grateful if readers would consider them for a TEA award this year.

Best Rumbelle Fic - Beauty and the Beast

Summary: A retelling of Belle and Rumple’s story from beginning to end using Monthly Rumbelling fics, written so that you get to decide what part of the story comes next.

Best Rumbelle Fic - Those We Leave Behind

Summary: Regina finds one of Henry’s storybooks after he leaves from a visit with his family. She thinks it is empty, but when she opens it she discovers a whole collection of stories about Belle and Rumple. The book tells of their lives together and she spends the day reading parts of it. Will she get to finish or will she be interrupted and what will she decide is the best place for such a collection of memories?
