Hey, it's almost 2026! To celebrate, I'll give some updates on my Splatoon fanfics, since it's been a while since I've updated.
tldr: I'm still working on them! There's just been a lot of setbacks, primarily work and hand pain becoming more frequent.
Now, for more in-depth answers:
When will the next "The Rainbow Squids" chapter come out?
Hopefully soon! Part of it is that a lot of this chapter is dialogue, and I was also hoping to trim the chapter down some once I finished it.
When will the next "Speak No Evil" chapter come out?
This answer is more complicated. I know--I've left the story on a cliffhanger for 9 months now. But the next chapter is an interlude, and if you've read this story, you'll know it's essentially a giant flashback. There's a lot to cover, a lot of things have changed, and I imagine why this chapter has taken so long.
Though, that's not all. About a month ago, I decided to rewrite the chapter in its entirety, since the previous scale would've been unfeasible and probably detrimental to the story as a whole. Because of work, though, I haven't had a lot of time to work on the rewrite, but I have made progress.
My ultimate goal is to release the chapter before Chapter 24 reaches the one-year mark, but you know me. We'll have to wait and see.
When will your Splatoon 3 story come out?
After both "The Rainbow Squids" and "Speak No Evil" are complete. So, realistically, probably sometime in 2027.
Do you plan to write a Splatoon Raiders story?
Maybe? If I do, it won't be for a while.
Do you plan to write a story for Splatoon 4 or other future games?
In all likelihood, Splatoon 4 is going to take place in a completely different location, so probably not. I need a break from writing super long Splatoon fics, anyways.
What are you going to do after you finish your Splatoon 3 story?
I don't know! I'll probably take a break. If anything, I think I'll try to branch into writing original work and get it published. But as with many creative industries, it's hard to break into.
If I do get a book published, I don't think I'll share it here, though. I want to keep my professional career separate from my online activities.
