fanfiction is a rare gem and a solid, living proof that, in a world of tiktok, influencers and content posting, not everything is about money and going viral. art can still be art just for the sake of the artists’ pure love, joy and passion for the art they create. fanfic writers write 100k words and more about the characters they love for free. just because they love these characters and the art of writing so much. art is not dead and the world is still beautiful.
and to add on to that i love all of you. my mutuals who do it or even just the writers i love. you guys are truly the back bone of every fandom sure the story is important, but the way you guys make it your own is an entirely different form of artistry. you guys have a talent in your own right and you might not always get the recognition you deserve but we all see you and love you 🩷

29. a kiss on the inside of the wrist

“We meet again.”
You resisted the urge to roll your eyes, instead keeping your eyes locked on the book in front of you. It was late, too late for anyone else to be in the library on a Saturday night—-or, at least that was what you assumed. You thought you’d be safe, hidden away in your little alcove to do as you pleased.
So obviously the universe had to shatter that piece.
And obviously that person would be none other than Sirius Black.
“Scram,” you stated bluntly, your fingers tightening the hold you had on the book.
“Always so rude, sunshine,” Sirius teased, the arrogance clear in his voice. You knew if you lifted your head in that moment, there would be a smirk on his face to match. “You wound me.”
“Bleed out for all I care,” you retorted.
“Ouch,” Sirius murmured, watching you for a few moments before he moved. He was faster, a lot faster than you gave him credit for and it took him seconds to yank the book out of your hands.
“Sirius,” you growled, your head snapping around to glare at the boy.
“I love the way you say my name,” he purred, still smirking as he took a few steps (out of your arm length) before glancing down at the book in his hands. “Hm, Advanced Spells and Charms…some light reading?”
You froze for a moment before scoffing. “Mind your business, Black.”
“Where’s the fun in that?” Sirius flashed you a wolfish smile before his eyes continued to glance over the page you were reading. “Advanced techniques in—” He paused, the arrogance quickly wiped off his face and replaced with a look of confusion. “Dismantling Dark Magic from cursed objects. Huh.”
You snatched the book back and Sirius didn’t even bother fighting it.
He watched the way you clutched the book close, your shoulders tense and your jaw clenched so tight that he could have sworn he could hear your teeth grinding from his spot a few feet away. But he also noticed something else—-something he recognised well enough from looking in the mirror whenever he was stuck back home over the summer or holidays—and found himself moving towards you, despite every cell in his body urging him to leave you alone. To treat you like a hostile caged animal and take three big steps back.
“I’m sorry,” he said, his voice softer as he stopped just beside you. “If you need any help—”
“Shut up,” you gritted out.
“The Black library is large and extensive,” he continued, as if you hadn’t verbally snapped your teeth at him. “There are books in there that date before Hogwarts was even made.”
The offer hung between the two of you in the quiet of the library.
You swallowed. “Thank you.”
Sirius didn’t think twice as he took your hand in his, ever the gentleman. You waited for him to kiss the back of your hand and make some smartass comment that would have you rolling your eyes. Instead, he turned your hand over, his fingers tracing over your palm before he lifted your hand to place a chaste, light kiss on the inside of your wrist.
“Until next time, sunshine.”
You stared at that spot on your wrist long after Sirius walked away.
