Hi! I bought a folsomformers shirt from you a little while ago, but I was wondering, please could you tell me what your recommendations are for the settings it should be washed at, so that the screen print doesn't get damaged?
Hey there! It’s recommended that you machine wash with cold water, on a gentle spin setting so as to keep the print in the best quality. I’d also recommend air-drying it or drying it in as low of a heat setting as possible. Thanks for your purchase and for asking!
for a patron request
Hello! You may have been asked this before, possibly, but I absolutely adore your coloring, and if I could, could I ask how do you color? I'd love to know
It’s a little too complicated to fit in a quick answer. Essentially, I render in a “paint over” style where i color in as much as possible underneath the sketch layer, merge all layers, fiddle with the curves tool, and then paint over top.
I go into more detail about my coloring process on my Patreon!

I'm Juan Santapau (he/him), and I make THE SECRET KNOTS, which is a series of short stories in comic form. I live in Chile. Hola.
If you've been on Tumblr for some time maybe you've seen some of these comics: the one about a city of secret names; the one with a misunderstood cryptid; the one about enshittification.
The full web archive is here: The Secret Knots.
If you'd like to support me with a few dollars every month (which helps me enormously to pay bills and keep making art), you can subscribe to my Patreon, where I post updates about every comic in progress and different extras. You can also follow for free and get notifications for new things.
Here’s the Newsletter, where I send reminders about new stories, and miscellaneous art.
I’m on Bsky and Reddit.
Here’s the PDF store, with some E-comics. Finally, here’s an invitation to the Secret Knots Discord, a community server that always brings nice recommendations, and regular sightings of the weird in the world. Feel free to drop by and say hello.

hello!! first off i just want to say ive been a huge fan of your work for years, your art is genuinely some of the coolest stuff ive ever seen and is so inspiring!! your linework and inking is masterful and your understanding of color as well is just. so so good gahh :) ive been struggling to find good lineart brushes recently that resemble ink dip pens with the organic/chisel feeling… i was wondering if you happened to know of any good brushpacks for this online or if you’d be willing to share your own brush settings :0
Thank you! I've been using Shiyoon Kim's Ink Brush set for ages, so I'd probably recommend that for an ink dip pen feel (it's very Ron Searle).
I don't do "lineart" for 95% of my illustration work (I paint over and under a sketch) but when I do (for my comic), I usually do it with Shiyoon K's "Wet Ink" brush.
