Tonight is the night that we shine, We boast we toast, We harmonize through rhythm and rhyme, We use our minds as weapons, To let go all the aggression, Through poetry we pose questions, Teach lessons and count blessings, While exposing our inner essence, One life, Standing at the three point line, One shot is all we've got, It's now or never, It's not about who did it bigger, But who can do it better, Then the previous predecessor, By finding new ways, And taking a different route, Looking fear in the face, And slapping the taste out its mouth, It's a new year, Where old tears are conquered, By the view of a new frontier. #mdotblake #theportal #openmic #tuesday Who's ready to get back, Into this open-mic life, You only get back, What you willing to sacrifice, To what extreme, Are you willing to go, To achieve your dreams, How focus can you get, Not to let, Your passion be distracted, By outside actions and attractions, For me bringing back to mic, Ain't even worth it, If artist can't even see, Their own value and purpose, And take their craft, A little deeper than the surface, It's more than having a mic somewhere, And hanging with folks who don't care, With their nose in the air, Drinking warm beer with blank stares, And your peers, Are making you feel weird and nervous, Nah man... The atmosphere got to be picture perfect, The mic gotta to be blazed, The bar has to be raised, We got to take it back to the days, When we held it down in Overtown, And brought that new sound to Midtown, Now Little Haiti is where, The open mic crown can be found, Under the red light, Every Tuesday night, Rocking with perfect timing, We got the whole city watching, Singing dancing and rhyming, If art is where it's at, Then we are in the thick of things, Wearing crowns over here, Like underground Kings.
