And then dragons start reappearing, because Skyrim wasn’t facing enough issues already. You joined the guards, presumably hoping to help protect your people. And then.

The reincarnation of your country’s greatest heroes is revealed. Your religion’s version of the college of cardinals send a message asking them to come and talk about saving the world please. You get assigned to be this person’s BODYGUARD. Holy shit. It’s happening. Maybe we can save Skyrim. This is how we protect everyone. HERE is your chance, through protecting this hero, to make a difference!!! and they never. fucking. go to the fucking Greybeards. You watch as they chase bounties, complete demonic missions, and your PRETTY SURE they just joined the evil murder cult. This game takes in-game months, probably in-game YEARS. Your hero is doing every single fucking thing except save the world. You swore yourself to them. And then when they decide they’re tired of you, they make you stay-at-home guardian while they go fucking off with some other asshole. It’s been years. They still have not completed the main questline.

Balor shares a name with an Irish mythical figure and I stole Arianrhod's name from the Welsh Mabinogi so... very loose connection there I guess

So Arianrhod happens to know Balor for back in the day... they weren't close exactly, but happened to run into each other now and then, being more or less in the same line of work. I have to imagine he's at least a little worried that "Canary", as he would have mostly known of her, just showed up here under yet another new name...
