I thrive in roles that are both strategic and tactical, and I’ve created online and print content for companies in the not-for-profit, hospitality, biotech, home decor, retail and technology sectors. Healthcare/Biotech editing project

I was hired as as the editor and writer and on a recruiting brochure for a healthcare/biotech firm in Silicon Valley that’s a leader in cancer diagnostic testing. We went through more than 20 versions and rounds of sometimes conflicting comments from scientists and product managers before creating a final version. I was responsible for polishing the copy, making sure it was factually correct and consistent with company and AP style. This project required relating complex scientific information in an understandable  way, managing the graphic designer’s detailed revision process and loads of patience.

Shop Houzz Product Marketing Content & Copywriting

From June 2014 to September 2015, I lead the team of freelancers and five staff who create product marketing content for the Shop Houzz division of Houzz.com, the leading international home design platform. In that time, I scaled content from one collection per week to more than 40, and launched a dedicated shopping newsletter, resulting in a significant increase in revenue. The role involved everything from devising concepts for timely content, editing, creative direction, setting voice and tone, art directing original photography, and  photo editing. I often invited experts, tastemakers and personalities in design and food to share their expertise via special collections as a way of creating story around our products.

These are examples of the Shop Houzz email newsletter that goes to 12 million+ subscribers every week. I select a theme, write headlines and subject lines, determine placement and choose featured images for each newsletter. Since launching in December, the newsletters have had a significant impact on building the Shop Houzz brand and revenues.

Marketing Project Management & Editing - UC Berkeley

Cal Day is UC Berkeley’s annual open house when the entire community is invited to campus to explore all the offerings ranging from musical performances to lectures on dark matter. As the program coordinator, I managed the collection, editing and categorization of over 350 event listings from 200 sources in a proprietary CMS to produce the supporting website. Style and Fashion Writing

The first specialty beat I ever covered was beauty and fashion; I penned a column where I interviewed fashion designers, cosmetics brands and trend-watchers. Since then, I’ve interviewed well-known designers like Chan Luu, Stephen Burrows, Kevan Hall, and Missoni fashion muse Margherita Missoni art directing and writing style shopping features. I curated and edited the In Style page for the San Diego Union-Tribune, which featured the launch of Giorgio Armani makeup as well as a feature interview with Hollywood costumer Nancy Steiner on how clothes help tell the story.

Misión 19 in Tijuana is considered the most important restaurant in all of Mexico. Tony Bourdain visited with No Reservations, Rick Bayless brought his TV cameras and the New Yorker did a 10-page profile. Adventurous foodies are making the short trip from San Diego across the international border to experience Plascencia’s unique Baja Mediterranean cuisine.

Beauty Copywriting & Editing - Forbes Travel Guide Startle.com

As a contract editor for the Forbes Travel Guide luxury website Startle.com, I copy edit, research and write content on international travel destinations, hotels, restaurants and spas to ensure accuracy, correct grammar and desired brand tone. I strengthen the SEO value of the content. To edit and write copy on beauty treatments at Mayflower Spa and Caudalie Vinothérapie Spa, I draw on my knowledge of beauty brands and the latest treatments and consult AP and Chicago style books on Arabic, French and Scandinavian spellings.
